Caloric level on cardio machines.

Recommended Posts

I cannot remember if I talked about this in the past or not. But something I have noticed over the years, which seems normal at this point, is the different level read outs by different brand machines doing the same excercise. Pre-core machines seem to read out somewhat higher then Life-Fitness, and Nautilus machines seem to be all over the map sometimes. Just wondering if anyone knows if the different companies are using that drasticly different of a formula when the machines have your age, weight, and BPM.

The vast majority of them use different formulae ... based off their own research, with their own general population data and highly over-generalized relationships from the graph produced.

Pre-Cor and Life Fitness equipment vary quite a bit.

It just seems there should be a standardized system. ie CEA 2006 :)

There should be for sure ... but these companies make too much money for that.

I need to find out which company is closer to my actual calorie burn. Pre-core seems high and life-fitness seems low. :(
