Building an enclosure for my JL w6v2...

Recommended Posts

I have two 12" JL w6v2 subs. I dont have an amp powerfull enough to power them anymore, so I'm going to run with a single sub for a while. I'm want to build a new enclosure for it... it will either be a sono tube or a fiberglass enclosure. I'm just wondering what some of you JL owners are running a single w6v2 in?? I know JL has some specs on their site for "suggested" enclosures. I've made their slot port before... but I sold it when I upgraded to two subs... and to be honest, I dont think its the best it could have been. I would like to go ported, will most likely used a round port. What are specs you guys using for your jl?? Any and all help is needed. I certainly dont want to by a prefab ha. Thanks!

If you want to run ported, sell the w6 and do something else. That sub really, really likes sealed boxes.

How much power do you have?

And yeah, I wouldn't consider using anything but a sealed setup with these :) Sounds great.

In my experience with them JL's recommendations were spot on...

Hmm.. alright. Well I have a crappy dual prefab sealed box that I might used to test out if I would like my sub sealed. Its probably around 1.5cuft airspace.. soo If I sealed up the second whole I will get an idea. I've always liked ported... so just not sure If I'd like it sealed ya kno.

I don't think a crappy prefab box will do it justice though. Build two boxes so you can swap it whenever you want! :)

Haha I would normaly do something like that, but money is tight at the moment sooo I guess gota work with what I have to make a choice then spend the money and build one good box. See I do have a ported box (actually borrowing it from my friend) It is another prefab- subzone to be exact. It can be a little boomy at times, but I realy enjoy the ouput when listening to rap/hiphop and electronica music. I would like to kind of compare that to the sealed box I have. I know it may not be the best way to do things... but if figure if I like one over the other then I can put the effort and money to building a nice box.
