You are going to be very limited on the floor under the back seat. I dont think you could do much more than the 4 8's you already have. You can go bigger and try 10's but I dont think you will get away with the height.

What kind of bass are you looking for? You will probably have to sacrifice more space in order to get what you want.

5.5" total?

If so, you "get" to use slim drivers only and even then you are going to be seriously cramped and BASS isn't something you'll really get. Bass perhaps, but don't expect miracles if you have no space.

yes my name really is steve mead. funny huh? i have followed the other steve who spells his last name with an E at the end for along time. im from the west coast also and he is really a badass. anyways. i have never heard a slim 12 and didnt know if they sounded any good. i can modify my boxs a little to except a 5.75" depth. i see jacob at sundown might release the new 8 around feburary '10. maybe thats the way to go. also my boxes are sealed at .6 cubes and hold two speakers each. RE sayes thats about right for a sealed box. i wondered if porting the boxes and only used one sub per box would yeild better spl? the subs sound starving for more.

Of course it will. If you have the space and want it louder, than put them in a ported enclosure. Trying a different enclosure before buying new drivers is the smart way to go. Just make sure its to RE specs.

SO THEN WOULD TWO 8S IN A PORTED BOX HIT HARDER THAN 4 8S IN A SEALED BOX?

I would say the 4 8's would be louder but it is all dependent on installation and enclosure. It sounds like you have space problems. Ever thought about doing a blow thru? I imagine you want to keep the back seat.

Id love to have a dual 18" set up in the back lol but defeats the perpose of buying a 4 door truck.

Hence the reason why I said blow-thru. The enclosure is in the bed of the truck, not in the back seat.

iwork construction and need all the bed space i can get. i guess i just wanted to know if anyone sold a slim 12 that would give alot of bass. or if there were better 8s i could run in the space i have, better than the REs i have now. i have plenty of amp just need subs that bump hard in the limited space im working with

Well without more space, you get no more bass. It really doesnt matter what driver it is. If thats all the space you have, it just wont work. 5.5" of height is not enough to work with to get the amount of bass you want. Back to the drawing board dude.

09' pick-up, what sort of mods are you willing to do?

is the current box / boxes based off a build from 3/4" mdf.

I cannot remember who it was, but I have seen fellars raise the seats perhaps by only 2" but it helps out on the needed air space.

If one side of the space, say the paasenger side, could use the entire volume, by fiberglassing from the floor, up, with the addition of two inches in seat lift........ Then perhaps two 8's firing downward on driver side and a port on the passenger side.

add lots of power.....might work out to create some louder lows. you would have more airspace and a ported box.

perhaps you could post up a couple of pics of this area..... might help spark up some ideas.

curious to as what the willingness to modify the enterior is......

could you put in a couple of buckets and build a center console, housing a cuple subs?

oh, like what budget do you have going.....?

chop

5.25" depth with the Sundown 8"s...... raise the seat 2" s and throw four of them in at .06 cubes ported....... perhaps?

If you could get more mounting depth by raising the seats, you could stick a couple of JL 10w6s in there. They are made to work extremely well in small airspace, plus they're an awesome sounding speaker. Otherwise you're kind of stuck with 8s or really shallow 10s. I haven't had much experience with any slim line subs so I have zero input on that topic.

If you could fit a thin 12" you could probably fit a Slim line JL 13tw5

The are almost as as small as a 12"

Just food for thought

So...are you willing to raise the rear seat to accommodate for more space?

I have thought about raising the seats it looks more difficult that it sounds. the way the new silverado rear seat folds it has a rail the back of the cab it slides up and down on. NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. im willing to make interior mod to make room i just need to keep it a functional 4 seat truck. im not to worried about money as money can be saved up to do anything.the boxes i have now are 7inches high in the front and 4.5 in the rear. plus i have the amps mounted on them. if i could relocate the amps and build one long box i could get up to almost 6 inches inside depth in the center of the box where the sub is thickest. total volume would be about 1.6-1.8 cubes

Put in 4 buckets and have a big ass center console running front to back, the airspace could expand under the seat too. Then you'd have space for bass.

Might be able to score a couple of seats at the junk yard for cheap. Would really open up your options for audio.

And if its a work truck, which I think it is, the junkyard seats would be perfect. You wont have to worry about effing those up because they most likely will be a little scarred allready. Im at pickandpull quite often looking for 2 bucket seats for my truck so I can get rid of my 60/40 and put in a center console.
