Bang and Olufsen in-car system

Bang & Olufsen is designing an in-car system for the Audi A8. Looks like it is actually going to be pretty decent. No mention of a subwoofer, but if they do it right, I guess they won't need one.

Active speakers are housed behind the covers, each with its own individual amplifier. This allows the sound properties to be adjusted accurately in accordance with the precise function of the speaker within the overall concept.

Fully active? Hmm...might be good, if they can get away from the "more power + more speakers = better sound" approach that Mark Levinson took with Lexus to sell a lot of those units...

I can't imagine how to effectively use 14 speakers in a car, or fit 14 amplifiers in there (even if they are palm-sized thats quite a bit of mass to hide).

If it was a 7.1 system

That would be the only reason I could justify 14 speakers in a vehicle.
