What would I need?

Recommended Posts

My current car is running off the stock 80 amp alternator. I am planning on soon putting 1200 watts RMS through the system. How will I know if I need an extra battery, or new alternator, or what?

Thanks.

Hook it all up and see if the voltage drops to 12 or below. If it does, you need more electricity.

X2........ Only way to really know is to try it, but to get you close here is the break down. 1200 watts will need about 110 to 130 amps depending on how eff. the amp is, and the car will generally need 75% of its alternator capacity. So its a safe bet that your going to be short on the current flowageaitation (flow-age-a-ma-ta-tion)

Yes BUT I would want that to be a last resort deal. Since that would be the most expensive option.

Just trying all my options first, ya know?
