Hello, noob to SI but not to car audio

Recommended Posts

well i have decided that it is time for a switch up in the system. i curently have a RE sx 15", with a american bass 100.1, but the sx is being sold today. after reading many rave reviews and talking to sean (ibander on most fourms) i am pretty set in that i want to get the new mag. the only thing is if i want a 12 or a 15.

my dilemma, i would like trunk space. but no big deal if i dont have any. ibander said that with too big a box none of the sound will make it into the cabin, i believe what he says being that he knows more than me and has more experience.

i will probally just go with a 12" ported

i dont really have a question, or a point. just wanted to say hi and you guys have a great looking product and hopefully i will be able to say great sounding product soon.

btw those are some great smilies (sp) :bananaDance: (that is going along with my music, or atleast it seams to me) listening to sandstorm by darude

Welcome to the forum first off.

How about soem specifics on the vehicle. Gievn your trunk is large enough and you take care of any possible cancellation issues, you can go with a 15. I'm sure you know, but it's all in the install.

how much bump are you looking for? I have one 2nd Gen 12 and its awesome and does quite well in its sealed box. Louder than a certain 15in sub i used to have in a ported box(ED160v2). I had it metered a little bit ago and it did around 136-141 depending on the mic and how much gain i put on it. Never put 100% gain though. I am satisfied with that but i want something that sealed can hold its own against say a ported 13W7 or a pair of W7s so i will upgrade to two 12s when the money comes around.

Not familiar with the Mazda, so I can't give you anymore help on that. I'd go with the 12s to be sure. Don't worry, they'll provide some output.

well it will probally just be a single, being that 2 would probally be out of my price range, and i lack the power to get them really moving.

You'd be surprised how little power you'll need. Take a look at the thread called "production driver porn." You'll see mine with a mere 250 watts in a 1 cubic foot sealed enclosure. IT was loud.

Well, if you want loud either go with a ported 15 or dual 12s sealed. I would prefer the sealed 12s but thats my preference. Krazie on here just got a 12 and he says its loud as hell in his TC. But in a sedan, i used to own a Galant, and it got loud as i could take but every once in a while i wanted to just humiliate the others and one 12 didn't do it. two 12s would give you crazy amts of output and would keep the SQ nice. A single ported 15 could sound nice too if given the right box.

what is the vc configs on them? my amp is pretty weak when it comes to load's other than 1 ohm. so that would figure in for me, (unless i suck it up and buy a 20.1 as well, but we shall see on that one)
