Hayabusa 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Going to be building my enclosure soon for my babys and was wondering should I use 3/4 MDF wood or 1" MDF? They will be sealed 1.5 cubes each powered by a US Amps MD2...
Aaron Clinton 2,372 Posted June 14, 2006 3/4" should be fine, but it would not hurt to add a second layer on the face of the enclosure where the subs are.
Hayabusa 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Would I be better off bracing it?
Aaron Clinton 2,372 Posted June 14, 2006 Would I be better off bracing it?bracing will help, but it will change your internal air space some..

Hayabusa 0 Posted June 14, 2006 (edited) Alrighty, I think I'm going to go with 3/4 MDF wood... I'm going to use Wood Glue Titebond II, Silicone II 100%, a can or two of Rhino Liner, a bag or two of Polyfil and 2" Nails spaced 3 inches apart. Do I need anything else to make my enclosure and would u guys reccomend anything else? Edited June 14, 2006 by Hayabusa
ANeonRider 3 Posted June 14, 2006 I use coarse thread 1.75" decking screws spaced 4" apart, countersunk and pre-drilled. Hate nails. Normal Carpenter's glue is all you need.http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=3276
Hayabusa 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Thats what I meant screws lol. Idk why I said nails.
Eldorado 0 Posted June 14, 2006 I love nailsJust the fact that all i have to do is pull a trigger and it holds2" is to long, go with something thats more like 1 1/2" or 1 1/4"
Aaron Clinton 2,372 Posted June 14, 2006 For the better or worst?neither, bracing inside takes up volume, you have to calulate that into the box design
Hayabusa 0 Posted June 16, 2006 Right now my shopping list for when I go to lowes monday looks like this:1 board of 3/4 MDF, Titebond II Wood Glue or Liquid Nails, 100% Silicone II, 2" Screws, 3 Bags of Polyfil, 2 Cans of Rhino Liner, Egg Crate(To put behind componets), and Great Stuff Insulating foam(for inside of Trunk Lid)...You guys got any recommendation/comments on that list?
///M5 2,833 Posted June 16, 2006 2" screws require a heck of a lot of predrilling. 1 5/8's are fine as long as you use a bunch of them, but as Eldo says the brad gun works super well to.
psycho72 1 Posted June 17, 2006 Going to be building my enclosure soon for my babys....<{POST_SNAPBACK}>your building an enclosure for your busa??? Actually is there any wood that is better than mdf, like oak or whatever?
Eldorado 0 Posted June 17, 2006 Oak and birck ply are better and worse in their own ways.Better beacuse they are lighter and look nicerworse becaues they tend to cost 2x as much as MDF and can split and have voids inside which can lead to leaks if not sealed up.The weight greatly outweighs the cost IMO.
