Pure SQ setup

Recommended Posts

hey i have a 02 ram single cab and just took out my center seat out in order to create more clearance and air flow for a sub/box. my question is; what is the best placement for my sub for sq?

this is what it looks like w/o the center seat: stealthbox02.jpg

and another shot: http://www.dupontregistry.com/Celebritycar...C-9363FD33193B}

thx in advance

about 3 feet into the dash would be my preferred placement.

Otherwise i'd just do 10s or 8s behind the seats

if you're doing a 12 do it in the middle against the rear wall. That would also allow you to mount amps on either side.

for the help man im def gonna need room for amps. also, when choosing a box size; should I go by manufacturer? im thinkin around 1.7 cu ft for the sub so how do i figure if thatll fit in my given space?

They're the ones that designed it, I'd be pretty confident they know what to put it in to make it perform best :)
so how do i figure if thatll fit in my given space?

Tape measure and a calculator.

ha yea yea. well b/w the seats measures over 16" and from the rear wall to the mounts for the center seat (removable i guess) is over 17". so how do i fig from that?

well it's easy to figure out a cube in that givin space since you gave us the width and the length. I can figure out the height needing to be 6.35. Now what you need to find out is what the optimal box size is for that particular sub and see if you have enough room for that said sub.

for reference, I use a 1.2^3 box in between my seats. I believe Jntar and gosh I forgot that guys name that I bought my focals from(I know it's horrible) but we all use 1.2^3 for our subs. Except they both run Mags and I'm using a JBL GTI. I've had a 2^3 box net tuned at 33hz in my truck before but it was so damn big.

crystal recommends:

Rec. Sealed Box Dims: 0.80 - 1.00 cu. ft.

Rec. Ported Box Dims: 1.50 - 1.50 cu. ft.

go with a 1cu ft sealed box, thats still small enough to work with and if it happen to be too big for your taste you can always add bracing

IMO yes, but a good ported enclosure can sound good too, but i wouldn't want to try to tune a 1cu ft box to 28hz and still save space. That port is going to be huge

Yes sealed is generally what people refer to as SQ oriented. I've heard some nice ported setups though with that extra output ;).

And it's not like sealed and ported are the only two options out there.

go sealed, and you could eve make the box where you removed your center console or whatever was there.

Re: your pm

Downfire the sub, sealed.

I've done a center console in a Quad Cab... next Sunday I'll get some pics of it installed.

If you find a CMPx2, (one of my favorites BTW) seal it and send that monster some power.
