To be honest I dont know. China sometimes uses standardized coils. Were those 2.5" coils? But Noah might have experience with it already...

It's a 2.5" Coil, I have quite a few 7500s laying around...

I spoke with Nick on AIM months and months back, and he mentioned you probably didn't have a coil that would fit.

The 8500s has 3" coil on it.

The 7500s have a 2 3/8" coil.

But I am also wondering if you guys can recone a MTX 8000 it has a 2.5" coil if not maybe I can just buy some tinsel lead wire from you cause I can find it anywhere.

Well if it is 2 3/8" like their info says I wont be able to do it... my 2.5" coils are 2.500" ID.

Noah... if you get a chance can you measure the coil ID and see what it actually is?

bromo... lead is no problem. Send an email to Scott@FiCarAudio.com with your address and Ill get you some out.

at least i'm not the only one....I've got two 8000 10's with broke tinsels, had spoke with scott about reconing them into 12's a few months back. Now i'm leaning toward 15"s

Scott, if i were to take one appart what measurments would you need me to get? I have a caliper and am not afraid to use it.

Voice coil ID and OD. This will let me know what MTX felt they could fit in there anyway. Im sure that they didnt waste flux by designing a monster gap and sticking a puny coil in it... probably the max dimensions Ill be able to stick to.

Thanks,

Scott

I think that it might have been a common problem on the 8000, im sorry i ever bought those i was assuming that they would have been better then the 7000s boy was i wrong.

Scott I will wait to see if weasles information from the caliper grants them to be reconable cause I would much have them reconed. I replaced the leads on them about 5 times each woofer just cause i couldn't find the right kind of wire. If they aren't able to be reconed then i will shoot you an email for lead wire.

I had 2 12" 8000's and yes the lead wire burning off is a very common problem with that model for some reason. I do not suggest fixing them your self they'll keep finding weak parts and keep breaking. I had mine in a sealed enclosure @ first and went ported to try to limit the excursion and turned my amp down and eventually traded them in at circuit city for the type R's, wasn't happy with either .

It isn't that hard to fix it is just being able to find the parts like lead wire the reason I "fixed" them so many times is because I couldn't find lead wire and tried many different kinds of wire. And in the process of taking the dust cap off so many times the subs are looking pretty ugly hence the reason I would like to have them reconed.

well finally

coil ID: 2.477

coil OD: 2.65

And like Scott said that uses pretty much all of the gap.

I have the soft parts here in front of me if you need anything else.

Almost forgot this is the standard model with the pole vent. They also made an "A" model that did not have a pole vent, not sure if the coil is the same but mtx has most info archived on thier site

Nope, didnt see it. Ill go ahead and check through all my proto coils tomorrow and see what I can find. But just measuring the couple I have on the desk, Id have to wind a 4 layer down to a 2 layer to get the OD acceptable. I think Ive got some others that might be a better fit though. Main issue is the smaller ID than standard... in order to ensure that the OD of the coil doesnt rub, you would need a really small coil...

Ill post back later.

Thanks,

Scott

it appears as though the original coil is a 2 layer, i'm leaning toward just buying a couple assasins if this looks to be too much of a pain

thanks for all your effort, this is why I will send you all my money from now on....lol

Well that is my kinda luck I have the A version with no pole vent. Really all I wanted was to have them around to play with maybe home stereo or for the car in between setup kinda thing. Well Scott looks like ill be shooting you an email about lead wire.

I have a couple of coils that appear that they will work. One I will have to unwind to a 2 layer, the other looks like itll squeak by as a 4 layer.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey Ngsm since you have experience with the 7500 and 8500, how do you compare them with the RE SE in SQ and SPL?. I currently have the 7500's and I'm planning to go with SE, butt i don't know if it's worth it, Thanks.
