New SQ thread

Recommended Posts

Need amazing midbass bass and mid perfromance in an SQ set up.

I have an 98 EB expedition. I have a 4 channel alpine 65 watt/ channel. I have an saz 1500. I have an 880 pio.

I have 4 rolls of RAAM and 10-12 yards of ensolite on the way. I will be getting some 1/0 and the big 3 done.

I listen to all music. Techno ie bass mechanics, BT, bjork, vnv nation. Hip hop ie, Atmosphere, Jurassic 5, dj shadow. Classical ie vivaldi, orff carmina, lovely ludwig van. Rock ie tool, slipknot, dragonforce. Classic rock ie clapton, zepplin, hendrix. Rat pack music. I just went from Arlo guthrie to frou frou to the dobie bro's. I gets gown with everything.

I listen to everything.... everythng but pop. I loath 95% of all pop.

As I said before, the only thing I need from a tweet is imaging and clarity. It's the only place I would be willing to sacrifice in the name of lewts. the budget.... about $2500 for drivers, I will need more amplification for the front if I go 3 way front stage however, ad it looks as thought that may be the way I'm heading.

Would you be able to take off the panel & get a rough depth measurement? We tend to start with fitting the largest midbass possible, then deal with midrange locating, then tweeters.

ha... I haven't tried to take it off yet. I need to find out how to properly but...... :runs to truck :

I have basicaly a magazine rack in the door, that is >2 inches from the door covering. and another >3 inches from there to where my leg when pushed to the side at the max is so I have roughly 4 inches being conservative before I would eve hit true door, I could angle it also giving more depth for the ass end also. Behind that I'm not sure how much room. Enough for the factor speaker though.

If you can really do it, 8's or 10's will be your friend. I'd probably lean towards the 8's for simplicity and the fact I have not auditioned many 10" midbasses although there is one 10 I'd love to run:

Depth and weight may be an issue though.

... for teh midbass...... uh... I can't pull the PDF on this machine for some reason. It's my roomies. And you want that in an enclosure in the door? vented? Hrmmm....

can you check the depth? Weight is high but I can brace glass and hook it up proper like.

We can't, but you can. :) It will depend on how far you want it to hang out the door and how much space is behind the mounting surface.

Sorry, I didn't even look at the page. It is 6" deep and nearly 10lbs...not exactly a little driver :D

ripped the door off. LOL

couldn't stand no having the answer. easy as pie. I can't wait to dead his big bastard. I have NO room behind the panel. It's maybe 1/2 inch to sheet metal, after dead and ensolite... not worth demolishing it. I'll just cut it for IB purposes and seal the magazine holding part.

No worries. You're helping me out. I am pretty limited in depth it looks like 3 1/2 - 4 inches.

due to some time constraints I'm changing my attitude and going to buy up all the products and have them on hand then install what I can as I can rather than buy a part put in a part. Especialy when if comes to deadening and wire. I may have to wait a while before that can happen but I can start working on the front stage mounts and such now.

I don't have the time/space to work on this untill I get my mother house/garage tidied up a bit.

I have 4 inches max in the doors. It will be a structural nightmare to do anything else. That said what do you think will be the best driver options for my situation?

Still working on pics. My computer is at the doctor ATM and i'm not sure of its survivability, and I never remember to grab the camera.

Sorry guys

=)

honestly, I could almost fit a 12".

Truthfully smaller would be better, but it's really a non issue. 10" woudl be fine, but I think a wonderfull 8" would best fit the bill, save some weight on the door, and may have less moving mass.

4" makes it much tougher for a midbass, these will fit though:

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1386

barely but would be my first choice

Some others:

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=821

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=297-078

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=295-376

or if you can up it another quarter inch

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=822

The SLS is a beast, but you will need something to take over from 200hz on up then.

that SLS is actualy a bit deeper than the seas by my math??<----I must have been drunk when reading depths. : edit : But it could save a ton of cash. If the SLS will do the best job I supose I can find a way if nothing else pull the woofer out further. Would tilting the woofer a bit cause any issues, then I could could swing it.

I wouldn't worry about the tilt at all for the low freq's it will be playing. The SLS will definitely have more output capability than the Seas and it is UNDER 4" :)

Sweet. I really think for the price the SLS is the winner. The morell though sexi looking and has a 3" fancy pants coil (WTF?) and it's small depth has really good sensitivity it's still 3 times the cost. Think the SQ would be there for the cost?
