Thinking about buying some subs...

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm new to the world of subs/amps and all this.

I am buying a new truck soon, don't have a good sound system, I'm wondering what would be good for someone like me

I LOVE bass, absolutely love it.

What combination of subs/amps would suffice?

And can anyone make a guide on how to set it all up once I get the subs/amp?

If you need me to be more descriptive about what I like, I can be.

something around 2000 watts(both subs together) would be great.

(remember I know nothing about subs except that they produce lovely bass)

What kind of music do you listen to, what kind of truck, How much space do you have to work with, Are you focused on it being loud or sounding good, Do you want to run ported or sealed, these are some questions that would better help us, help you.

I listen to mostly rap/techno for the bass.

I just bought a 1999 GMC Sierra 2500 extended cab

I have the whole back cab to put subs/amp. not worried about who wants to sit where :P

I'd rather it sound good(but if there is a meeting point between loud and sounding good that would be amazing).

don't know what ported or sealed means....

Sealed Setup

=========

Positives

+ Requires less room

+ Provides a more accurate bass response

+ Music just sounds overall better

Negatives

- Not as loud

Ported Setup

==========

Positives

+ Louder

+ Louder

+ Louder

Negatives

- Doesn't sound as good (more deep and boomy on the basslines)

If your really all for rap then a ported setup would be great.

What were you thinking sub wise?

2 12's, 2 15's?

Nothing TO expensive

Im low on cash for now. just bought the truck.

so I need to go back to work soon and start making some cash.

but I'm looking to spend a maximum of around 2-3 grand(CAD)

on the amp/subs together(if thats possible)

and I'm not looking to get any like, canadian tire subs

i want some deecent quality ones that arent going to crap out after a month or so.

if I had to say, i'd probobly say 2 15's sound better to me.

well, by the sounds of it, you have enough money to put into a HO alt., deadening, and everything else... so IMO I would say for your best "bass" output.... go with 2 15" FI BTL's D2's and 2 Sundown Audio SAZ1500's, wired at 1 ohm to each amp or 2 D1's wired to the amps at 1 ohm strapped.

Can you put that in lehman's terms?

Because I have no idea what HO alt is, 2 sundown audio SAZ1500's(although I am assuming those would be the amps?)

no clue what wired at 1 ohm is or, 2 D1's any of that...

lol sorry, like I said, im absolutely new to this.

ok.

search the internet for a high output (HO) alternator for your truck.... it will help. maybe sealed cell battery(such as kinetik, or powermaster).... and sound deadening(such as dynamat).... i would say.... (also in my opinion((IMO))) 2 FI BTL subwoofer's...(good luck "crapping" them out) dual 1 ohm(D1) and 2 Sundown Audio SAZ1500(yes, the amps) strapped, wired at 1 ohm(search the internet for wiring instructions)

hope it helped a little.... if not PM me and i'll get into MORE detail.....:D

amps

subs

(the 15" one)

Ill keep looking around about all that other stuff. thanks!

Ill let you know if I need anymore help(which I most likely will!!!)
