Recommended Posts

"Specifically the coil. for those of you that dont know the alpine type x uses a coil that has windings on the inside AND the outside of the former. what would you think would be the pros and cons of such a setup? I will keep my thoughts to myself at the moment, cuz i may be WAYYY off base thoughts?"

IMO :

If the coil rubs a bit on the pole (which shouldn't happen), it is very easy to short out the windings. Could be a good idea because of extra "contact" surface between the coil and the air around it.

ya any "rocking" of the coil and it would be toast still interresting design! i just don't see how the "pros" of this design would outweigh the "cons"!

The coil is actually a dual wall former - one coil / former inside the other.

It is said to increase thermal power handling as the second former is like additional moving heat-sink for the coil.

The patent can be seen here :

"Said to increase power handling"

Do you think it works better than the standard coil??
