icon 15: ported or sealed enclosure?

Recommended Posts

I have just received my 15" Icon sub, and I can have a sealed free enclosure (about 4 cu ft).

I listen mostly to reggae and rap,

What should I do? Keep it sealed, or add a round port to it ?

My amplifier is a JL Audio A1800 and will give the sub 650w rms @ 4 ohms.

I have Focal 165KP for front speakers on a big Boston GT42 amp.

0 Ga power wiring... Still to come:big 3

And.......my car is a Toyota Auris(new Corolla hatchback).

That's'it !

Thank you for your advices!

Try the ICON sealed and see how you like it, if you want louder you could port it. If you decide to don't just cut a hole and put a round port in there, do it right.

4ft^3 is really big for a sealed box for an Icon 15.

Way too big for a sealed box. Drop a 6" round port into it at 14.10" long. Tunes you to 33hz.

different advices here!

Don't know yet what to do!!! But I think I would like a ported one.

So,

1) a 6" round port at ...what long?

If I port it, I will have to tune it by ear. I don't know if 33Hz is not too high for my taste.

or 2) make a smaller sealed one, about 2.5 to 3 cu ft .

I have to decide it today. I will see with my friend The Builder ! But still looking for nay advice.

Thanks

You listen to Rap and Reggae. 33hz is perfect for you. I already listed a length.

I DID IT !!!

I finally have my Icon playing in my car.

First impression : big smile on my face :):dancing:

with "only" 650 w rms(maybe less I think) this thing is pounding!!!

Sorry to ask, but how can I post pictures on the forum? I want to make a test before I shoot and post some pics of my car and my instal.

I only had time to make a 30 min listening while driving.

But I am very happy with it!!!!!!

I want to let it play a while to see if I really need to tune the enclosure lower.

I understand when people were talking of accuracy :) : I think I've eared bass notes I 've never eared on my Kicker!!!

In term of output : I think that I've really lost nothing going from 1000w @2 ohms to 650 @ 4 ohms!!!

But definitely :dancing:

That is awesome to hear. You can upload the images to a file hosting site or to the member gallery here on SSA. Then copy the image url file name. When you go to post the image, place IMG tags on each end. :)

WOW !!!

The sub plays beTter and better.

Last night, on a Gucci Mane song we feeled the bass so low in the car, that we started to have some stomach problem!!!

We just turned the radio off !

It was too hard!

IT'S'JUST FANTASTIC!!! I LOVE IT

All the listeners were talking about the fact that they could listen to every bass notes.

And imagine that I may tune the enclosure lower again!!!

THANKS SSA :)

I didn't want to make a new thread, so, here is my question :

What should I do? I finally put a round port but I couldn't find a 6" one, so I tried a smaller one. It works FINE. Now, I would like to try a lower tunig.

Can I just try a longer port, or is it better to find a bigger diameter port?????

Tell me what you think, guys

Thanks
