Dual ported enclosure setup

Recommended Posts

I have read alot on building ported boxes in the past couple of days but here is what i was planning on....

Putting two kicker 12" L7's in a ported box.

Here is my ?

When porting the box is it more efficent to put one port out the middle where both chambers connect to, or to port each individual enclosure on either side/ or in the middle just separated!?

If using just one port is there a need to separated the two chambers before the port??

THanks!@

I put my port in the middle because i needed the extra bracing.

Some use a common chamber, some use dual.

Common uses less wood and makes it that much lighter.

i like the middle port due to what supa jsut said..it's like having a built in brace...

common chambers are easire to build and less expensive, but if the port is long, doing a center port can be difficult. individual chambers aren't as easy but offer a few advantages...if one sub blows, u can still play the other, the center style port will actually be two ports and if they are long they just become typical "L" style (my preferance) and they add a lil more bracing..

as to efficiency, i'm not to for sure which is a more effiecent design...

this is a great question, most SPL installs I have see usually run a common chamber where as most SQ installs I have seen run individual chambers

SO, a box setup like this with no divider would be my spl dream???

And does make so much more sense with bracing and such!

speaker = kicker

if u port like that, which is possible, but the back legs will only be have as wide as the overall port. u'll be dividing the port two ways, so u divide that part in half (only the width)...

no..not the length..the width....

like it's 14.5t x 2w x whatever long..when u get to the "T" part..the port on each side will be 14.5t x 1w

does that make sense? lol...if not, i'll try to draw one up...

So you are saying that if the main port is 2"wide and the back 2 ports going to each chamber are 1" wide, this is ideal??? if no then you lost me hahaa

No matter how many times I see the whistle-tip video...it's funny. I agree with Kent, it's a disease or something.
