a new box design?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 15" Icon sub in a (about) 4 ft3 enclosure, tuned to 30something.

The port is just a 6" round PVC tube. I know I have not enough port area.

It sounds good :)

But, with the same total volume, would it be better to make an enclosure with the kind of port I can see in all the pics here ? I don't remember the name, sorry!

I want to get the best of my sub.

(I listen to rap, r' n b and reggae, and I have a saz 1000 amplifier).

You mean a slot port? If there is nothing wrong with your current port (no port noise), there's no reason to change. A slot port tuned to the same frequency will not change anything.

Ok. Thanks.

But why do people seems to only use slot ports? As I can see here.

It is easier and give you a much lighter box to use pvc tube.

Maybe it is not so good for high output subs?

A lot of times its much easier to incorporate a slot port in a box than pvc tubes.

Right. It's also much easier to get large amounts of port area with a slot port. For 100 sq. inches you can either make, say, a 20" x 5" slot port and fit it easily off to one side of your enclosure, or use something like eight 4" PVC ports or four 6" ports . It's also much cheaper to use slot ports instead of aeros, which cost about $15 apiece. Regular PVC, though, eh maybe a tie in price.

Ok. I get it.

I keep my box. When I get my future sub (an Xcon!) I will build another box. :)

Thanks.
