Prepping MDF for paint

Recommended Posts

Hey guys have seen alot of painted boxes and for the build I'm doing I wanna go with a House of Kolors blue on the box. What kind of prep work is involved in setting up mdf to be painted? Is it neccessary to resin the whole outside of the box or will a high build primer work on mdf? thanks.

I only sanded to get the sides flush and to break the edge on the corners. I didnt sand the whole box.

I filled the screw holes with carpenters putty and sanded. Rolled on some sealer primer, then rolled on my paint. I chose a roller with some texture to try and match the interior trim.

Pretty much same process I would assume but where you used roll on paint I will be using automotive grade stuff from HOK
