12" RL-p, 1.21cu. ft box sealed, amp settings?

Recommended Posts

Just put in my 12" Rl-p it pounds. But what settings should I set my amplifer to?

Alpine MRD-M605

600WRMS x 1 @ 2ohms

1.21 cu. ft. internal volume

Here are the settings that are available, as per the user manual:

Crossover Frequency Adjustment Knob

Permits adjustment of the crossover frequency, by

rotating the knob to select any frequency between

30 to 200 Hz as the crossover point.

9 Lowpass Filter Slope Selector Switch

The Lowpass Filter slope can be set for either

12dB/oct. or 24dB/oct..

it does sound very nice, but i was hoping the bass would be tighter. so im thinking about getting a ported box from circuit city or something just to see how it sounds.

any recomendations about what frequency to get the box tuned for? i've seen them on ebay between 30-42hz.

TIA

you're not going to get tigher bass than a sealed box. ported box will be louder though.

What headunit?

stock hu

audi symphony using blaupunkt adapter to get RCA outs

2000-2001 b5 audi unit

i know thats my limiting factor and it would sound much much better with a different HU. however, there is no dash kit for my car year. i can only go custom, which doesnt ever look completely stock.

it does have a 4 level eq for front/rear speaks though. plus the regular bass/treble/mid adjustment. decent.

It does help to set the correct gain.

This what you have?

http://www.midwestelectronics.com/product_...products_id/140

Other than the gain, I would set everything like this:

LP Filter: 72Hz

LP Slope: -24dB/oct

Subsonic filter: OFF

Phase: 0

And to set the gain...

Read the gain setting tutorial, and adjust the gain setting on the amp until it is the closest to the voltage it should be.
