My ampilfier goes into protect mode

So I hooked back up my amplifier today and when I turned the headunit on and played some music I realized that no bass was coming from my subwoofer and my amp was in protect mode. I also noticed that my lights would flicker and dim and why voltage dropped to like 12 volts. Any suggestions to what the problem may be?

Hook it directly to a battery if you can.

Power and REM together and - to Ground

If it goes into protect its likely blown.
