Coils read a little high..why?

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to sale a sub I have laying around on Craigslist. I'm not the kind of person to screw someone over so while getting more pics a put the DMM on the coils..

That's one coil. Kinda strange on the other. First test it read 2.5 then after disconnecting the probes and I pushed on the cone. Reconnected at it shows 3.5.

Not sure how to understand what's going on. My main concern is trying to sell a f'd up sub to someone. When I had it connected last it sounded decent. Didn't appear to be functioning improperly. No scraping or anything.

Help me understand.

the coil probably scraped up against the pole piece and shaved a bit of the winding down. Usually 10% variance is deemed acceptable.

In your opinion is the sub damaged? Should I include any kind of special info in my ad to keep things straight forward?

Thanks Julian.

Bump for more info. Not sure how this effects performance or condition of the sub.

I can't quote how long it would last on rated power. But it should still work

Just saw you were from stockton, I'm in Monterey.. I was just in Fairfield not too long ago.
