its a thin strip, but either 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch thick. i think its nice because its got tape on one side to stick. i am just trying to stop the rattle in my car door. and looking for something cheap and basic. m5 said CCF. i think these are a type of CCF? they are not marketed for use in a car, but i think it could work?

just the midbass in my door panel causes rattles. so i think i should place this foam around the inside plastic panel to stop the rattling? or is there some other good product thats better? or should i not even try to use this type of foam tape?

thanks!

edit: found this too, looks legit, i would just have to cut it up a bit. but its 2 inches thick... not sure if thats too thick? but it also says this lol... ummm "Important notice regarding flammability - all polyurethane foams including combustion modified foams will burn and generate smoke and gases; not to be used as acoustical foam"

and i would get some velcro stips like this

also when reading about this, i guess theres a big difference between "rattles" and "vibrations"?

rattles are causes by two surfaces touching each other and vibrations are from the sound?

now im not exactly sure which it is lol...

You really need to identify the source of the rattle before you can eliminate it. If it is the trim panel rattling against the inner skin, the weather stripping you linked should be fine. You can be pretty sure that's the problem if you can stop the rattle by pressing your hand against the trim panel.

More often than not, it's something inside the door rattling - actuator rods, window track, etc. The foam isn't likely to be useful in any of those scenarios. Key point is: identify the source of the rattle before you try to fix it.

ok thanks. the rattling stops when i press a finger against the plastic door panel where the grated holes are, where the sound comes out.

i dont want to cover those holes with foam. so i was thinking the rattles are coming from around it? so i was thinking of placing foam around the circular area, but allow the opening to not be covered.

If it's plastic touching another part, try to put carpet between the 2 pieces that makes noise.

Each time you get rid of a certain noise, you'll find another to work on ! Until your car is quiet enough for you.

Good luck.
