A new 187 help plox

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

I am quite new to the world of car audio and its already completely addicting.

I found my way to this forum/site thanks to the guys at caraudio. They recommended a 187 series Sub.

I plan on ordering a 10 or 12 incher for my new system.

I'm running a 5350A Reference amp from infinity.

I have 300RMS at 2ohms.

Can anyone suggest which would be better, a 10 or 12?

Thank you very much.

The reason im getting a 187 is i only have around 100 bucks to spend.

I just want to make sure, that I have enough power for the sub. I know from what I have read that I will get some great sound if done right.

I also want to make sure My enclosure is right.

With my power, should it be ported or totally enclosed?

Thank you very much for your time.

Get the 12 and go ported. Id say 2-2.5 cubes tuned to 35 hz would be awesome!

I love my 15 off 400 watts sealed. You'll be very, very surprised.

Just ordered my IA 187 12''

I was wondering if anyone can look over my numbers here to be sure that the box I'm planning on building will work correctly.(for a 12)

IA Suggests.

Ported 2 cubes - 2.5 cubes, 20 - 30 Inches of Port, 28-35 Hz

I have designed a box using this tool.

http://www.reaudio.c...t_Box_Calc.html

Width 28"

Box Height 16"

Box Top Depth 12"

Box Bottom Depth 18"

Wood Thickness 0.75"

Square Port Width 1.5"

Square Port Length 4" (seems to help tune it in)

This gives me.

30.063035251515 Hz

It may possibly be less once i put the sub in and account for the .09cuft of space that takes up.

I'm asking here, with these variables, Will this box sound good, and work well.

I also plan on cutting the port in the opposing side, so i can put the angled side against my car seats, and the sub facing the rear of the car.(Will this change the tuning?)

Any suggests about my placement of the port/sub will be greatly appreciated.

hows something liek that?

Should i make sure its tuned to 35 hz tho?
