ALphasonic/ US Acoustics question

Recommended Posts

I usually hang around phoenix phorum. I have an account here and since i just ordered some stuff I thought I would pose a question to someone who may actually be able to answer it correctly :-) I'm getting rid of a few things and posted up my USA 2150. Almost immediately the thread went south with someone wanting to know how this amp could possibly have these ratings with only a 35 amp fuse.

2 x 150W @ 4 ohms (12.9V)

2 x 225W @ 2 ohms (12.9V)

1 x 450W @ 4 ohms bridged (12.9V)

Fuse: 35A

Of course my reply, which may shock some of you was " If you run anything other than 4 ohm stereo pop in a 50 amp fuse just like hifonics" . Is this the right answer? OR ...Can the USA 2150 do rated power with a 35 amp fuse?

Now for amp porn....SAM_0725.jpgSAM_0720.jpg

35Ax12.9v= 450Watts

If it were to drop below 12.9v it may pop, but I'm not sure how efficient the amp which would play into some factors

That fuse size will be fine for that amplifier, if anyone doubts you tell them to do some research about fusing amplifiers first. Zed Audio has a good write up explaining about fuse/power rating ratio's, just because an amp is rated 600 watts does not mean it will need a 60amp fuse or bigger to perform properly.

They are some of my all time favorite amplifiers. Could be my favorite ZED built, non-ZED Branded. I still hold on to my 2075. It has become one of the staples in the testing process of all SSA sub woofers. I have been on the PG forum for a long time, so I try to jump into most ZED topics on there.

I agree with everything stated above. Mantz has his own theory on fusing that most others don't agree with. And they certainly do over rated power.

That amp should be fine and anyone who knows anything about these amps wont have a problem with that fuse. lol

Thanks man. The rack full of zeds was actually replaced with a SS 705 which in turn was replaced by something else. :drink40: I pretty much run a system till I find somethign interesting and then swap out or if I lie it it last though spring and summer then comes out in the winter,.
