Need help with box for a couple sa-12's

Recommended Posts

max dimensions are 17"h x 31"w x 27"d

i will be running a crescendo bc2000

thinking pretty much the same thing anton miller has setup in his cavi it seems to be really efficient

i want to be able to hit the low's really well so im thinking 30hz tuning ?

this is what i have come up with so far

27w x 16h x 25d using 3/4 mdf should get me 5 cubes

after sub displacement of .14 i should be at 4.72 using a 6" aero tuned to 30hz i need 14.5 inch flared and with port displacement i should be at around 4.5 cubes witch is max recommended for the sa-12's

if im doing something wrong please let me no i plan on building tomorrow

First of all: in my opinion that is not enough port area. Would you consider building a slot port?

rather stick with aeros so i can always re-tune easy

why do u think not enough port area ? worried about port noise ?

Believe they publish 19mm one way

Alright I just found that. So we have 19mm xmax, two 12" woofers and tuning @ 30hz? I come up with 8.92 MINIMUM diameter if using round ports. If using slot port then 62.45 inches.

I would go with three 4" aeros. I buy mine from parts express. They are the psp brand. The problem you need with three 4" is they each have to be 22" long. Could you raise tuning to 33hz? This would mean you wouldn't have to cut them down, since they come in 17" kits.

length is not a huge deal i am making them out of pvc

Well if you are making them yourself. Three 4" Pvc ports. Each 22" long.

in a 3.5cube box should do good

where do you get 3.5 cube ? im looking at 4.5

also does port displacement effect tuning ? do you calculate port size before or after port displacement

and what is 3 4" 22" long aeros going to displace ?

It will displace .48 cubic feet

so i would be looking at roughly 4.24 cubes

Port size does effect tuning. So when figuring out box size you need to take size + port and sub displacement. Just adjust the total size and make it a little bigger. If you can't go bigger adjust the size to 4.25 and refigure port length and displacement will change.

I have had great luck with two 12" SA-12s tuned to 32hz and 4.0cubic feet.

On my phone right now. I can recalculate here in a bit. If those are your max dimensions, stick with the numbers above. Tuning may change 1 to 2 hz but it won't be noticeable.
