proposed build..

Recommended Posts

2004 chevy silverado xcab

clarion dxz955mc source unit (installed)

kicker kx 2500.1

kicker kx 4 channel, undetermined yet

kicker ss 6.5 componets (to replace the memphis sq)

kicker rmb or ss 8 (will either go where the factory 4x6's are or in custom door pods)

kicker 8L7's x 4 under the backseat, hopefully ported. if i have to go sealed, then i might try to squeeze 4 10L7's.

whatcha think? changes, idea's? will probably throw a blue top back there, and change all the wiring out for kicker as well. dunno yet.

Sounds great! I have a lot of experience with the older Kicker components and loved them. Their silk domes are lovely. Had SEVERAL sets of the RMB8s as well. They are great. Will EASILY go down to 30Hz IB in a door, and are shallow as hell, so the new SS series should be even better. For subbass, I'd go with the four 10s sealed.

ok...got the rmb 8's and teh ss componets.

still deciding upon size and number of subs, might end of with 4 8's sealed.

also, amplification. dunno if i wanna run the 06 stuff, or some of the older stuff. only thing for certain is that there will be a 2500.1 on the subs.

should i run 4x6's in my back doors? if i do, h/u power? i want to run the rmb's off the rear channel of whatever amp, with the ss's getting the front. ideas, suggestions?

Should rip. I like the older stuff, only because its older and I really don't think you need the 4x6's.

NO on the 4x6s. I don't know how your doors are, but on my truck, the door panel is pretty much flat and a great template for custom panels.

Hey, how pricey are the Kicker components?

Don't run 4x6's in the rear in that truck.

Should be able to fab something up if you want something back there.

ok...no 4x6's.lol...you guys win. actually, probably wouldn't be hard to drop a 5.25 back there to be honest. that sound good?

ryan..retail on the ss's was $999.99. the ones i'm getting are a year old and used two weeks. they were traded back in when the guy traded his truck. anyway, i can get ya my price today and let ya know. it won't be $1k, that's for sure..lol.

update?

yep...i have decided upon amps...

zx7005: will power the ss componets off the front channels, a pair of 5.25 coaxils off the rear and the sub channel will push the rmb 8's as midbass.

zx2005 will push either 4 8L7's or 4 10L7's. still trying to figure out the space issue.

kicker hyperflex wiring will replace all wiring in the truck.

hopefully actual build time will start next week.

This is going to be one sweet build.

I'm tempted to get an L7 to play around with again sometime.

well the word on the street is that the new L7 is far and way better than the outgoing model which makes me curious enough to find someone with one

I have always loved their 5 channel

I was going to get one but they were to expensive

Id say its 2nd best in mainstream companies to the memphis belle.

if the new Power 1000 was more reasonable in price I would consider unloading the Orions in the sled for a single monster amplifer set up.

i'm about to find out..lol..

i love the belle, and the 7005 is stonger on the high end, but a bit weaker on the sub side compared to the little belle, which should make it perfect as the sub channel will be pushing the midbass drivers.

steve, aaron...the new L7's ARE that much better. it's a complete difference. dunno why, but they are. that's kinda what prompted me to do this. i mean, i'm completely gutting everything..lol..gonna be fun!!!!

i preferred the CVX (pretty much same thing but round) and i really really don't like their 8" mids (rmb's or ss's) as i need something with a lot of prescence and output; they were a little dull for me.

nonetheless, i love their amps (their multi-channels even more) and it should be a nice project.
