Why do people run two runs of 0 gauge negative when they do runs of positive can't I just ground it in the back off my second battery

To decrease resistance from the front battery (connected to alternator) to the rear battery(s).

Its all connected to the frame. Some people go the extra mile and run the same amount of positive and negative runs (more so in competition) from front to back but neither way is wrong really.

If it is a full frame car/truck, the negative runs are not needed if you bond to the frame correctly.  In fact, you can easily raise overall series resistance when running a separate ground instead of properly using the frame.

 

In a unibody vehicle there may be gains from running an additional ground.

I ground from the alt case to the battery bank, also to the frame.  Also run equal grounds, I dont want any voltage drop, so a little over kill goes a long way.
