So I am going to a sound competition on sunday/may 2nd, and I am planning on entering into the street beat sb4 category, I know its just for consumers, but everyones gotta start somewhere, plus my car needs better electrical and a better amp to do anything more challenging. So does anyone have any tips for me. I have read the USACi rules already, but i'd like some tips from the more experienced. I have a ssa 15" xcon hooked up to a hifonics 1610d amp. let me know

sorry to say this but look at it from this perspective- That 1500w amp on music should rarely be pulling above 100A and if it does, it's very fast and that's it. your alternator is capable of outputting 110A at idle (supposedly) so for u to be dropping that low means your alternator rating while driving is a lie... Second, if u were to tell me that you had a STOCK alt and a single yellow top in there, dropping that low may be normal... However u have a H.O. (supposedly) Get your dmm out and check to make sure the voltmeter isn't wrong first. If it's not wrong, jam on it for a while then turn it off and measure voltage at alternator, then front battery, then at amp. This allows the wire to heat up to get better voltage drop measurements, if there are any, to see if u have any problem areas.

Dont use bass boost and dont use a DMM to set your gain since you cant detect clipping. If your worried about your electrical being enough to run at .5 ohms it is only one way to tell, install all the equipment and watch your voltage. I would take extra measures to make sure my voltage is up to par to run an amp at .5 ohms. If your stock speakers get to loud or sound like ass then either replace them or change your settings on your headunit that control those speakers and what they do. Play around with your settings till you get what you want or give us some more information and we can try to help you, how do you have your headunit set up as of now?

Wrong... Because once you play below the resonant tuning frequency of the tuning of the port the port is nothing but a gaping hole in the enclosure...causing the sub to have full power in a "Free Air" environment. The SSF with a steeper 18db/octave slope rolls things off faster and helps keeping this from happening. 1000 watts free air is more then enough to kill a BTL...it has enough coil in it to sling the parts completely out of the gap. Box is too big, Amp subsonic filter with a very shallow (12db/octave) slope does not roll things off fast enough...and that's what happens. The sub does exactly what you tell it to do and it commits suicide. Box is too big, subsonic filter is not adjustable... Like I said, you can fix it with a recone...if you do not get a different amp or an adjustable subsonic filter in line it is just like driving your brand new car into a wall. You are going to do it again and be right back here with the same problems forking out money that you shouldn't have had to fork out in the first place. I don't want speakers to break...the last thing I want is a returned product, I never want to see them again once they leave the shipping dock. But things like this happen if it isn't set up right. -Nick

There is absolutely nothing wrong with running 2 different amps on one sub. Additionally, matching the amps is trivial. It will not hurt the sub in any way if the signals are completely different. You will just have more loss the less they are matched in phase (shouldn't be an issue with 2 identical amps set the same). The only reason you match the level is so that each amp is running out of steam at the same time, that way one amp isn't already taxed while the other is at say 50%. In the voicecoil, no matter how you wire it, if the signals are in phase they are additive, if they are different levels, they are still additive. If they are out of phase they begin to cancel. This doesn't really hurt anything. The coil doesn "work against itself", instead the magnetic field weakened, or not built.... It doesn't overheat anything as long as you don't exceed the thermal ratings of the coil. There are literally millions of passive DVC home audio subwoofers around the world that have been operating on combined stereo signals (huge phase and level differentials) for decades without any issues.... As they should....

I did it just for you.. I figured you would be the man for the job to test the rig.. I'll even give you a deal on the sub so you can mount it in your bedroom so your wife can get some real pleasure!

well listen to old school cars on youtube and tell me if thats good enough?? if I can even find a cd for that. edit-- also what if my radio shuts off during a test? because my radio does shut off if the song drains enough power. my voltage goes down to 10 volts at idle if its all the way up.

well bme click is loud, but the bass doesn't even start until 32 seconds into the song... are you aloud to pause the song right before the bass starts?? I think old school cars hits just a little bit harder, old school cars has more intensity it just shakes your body and the doors. But bme click sure found the resonance freq. of my rear mirror, Ive never seen it move the much.

well thanks I'm gonna try bme click right now and hopefully its awesome.

oh ya bme click. that song is awesome I have heard it on the xcon when it was still hooked up to my home stereo and it was awesome, I can only imagine it in my car

I know welcome to the machine has a good beginning bass note. So the bass really can't go up and down? I thought if you where competing with music all is ok just as long as there aren't any sine waves. because old school cars has a awesome note for this sub at the beginning that keeps switching between two notes for the first 40 seconds.

I can stop at a bigger store on the way to the show, but i dont want to risk not being able to find a cd when I am almost to the show.

I have all of pink floyd but its not on cd. The only cd I have at all is avril lavigne cd i bought almost ten years ago. If it needs to be a legit cd I will have to go buy one when I get paid tomorrow. Hopefully I can find one of those songs at walmart. There isn't any near-by best buys or anything like that.

The song that hits the hardest I think is oj_da_juiceman-old_school_cars, Also Hurricane Chris - Hand Clap and lost - gorilla zoe ft lil wayne, hit really good also.

I listen, to techno, euro-dance, rock, classic rock, oldies. But the best music songs that hit hard are rap. i'll post in 5 minutes what songs sound good, i have to get it from my car.

my box is tuned to 29hz and it peaks in that area. between 30-40hz is where it hits the loudest. I have some good songs that are really loud, on my mp3 drive, should I just pick the songs that I think is the loudest and then go buy that artists cd? I wonder why we can't use mp3's/burned cd's? just copyright?

I thought street beat 4 was for 15" subs. I have a 1992 buick century station wagon, with a stock 105 amp alternator, 1 extra 55ah battery, 0 gauge wire, and the big 3. the rear speakers are in there own enclosures. the cd deck is a kenwood excelon x991, with monster cable rca's. I was readin and it says ""Only commercially available music may be used for judging (no burned cd’s). Music must contain a discernable bass beat or rhythm. (Must be music). Music with intentionally extended bass tones will not be allowed. This will be evaluated by the head judge"" what about mp3's on a usb drive. I don't own any cd's at all. I have some cassette tapes lol. here is a pic of my car Also here is a link to my youtube video, there are more vids just look at my channel.

Please don't bash me for this. I want to know why my ssa xcon sucks at any frequency's above 60hz. I know they are mainly meant for deep bass, but every other sub ive ever owned could hit the 60-100hz range well, even my last 1000rms 15" i used to have. I know this sub is not those subs, but why is a sub that meant for SQ not able to hit those frequency's I really like the fill in there, even that some of you may think its pointless or dumb. also to add is that better component speakers would help but it would take like 6 8" woofers to get the feel i wan't and thats way way to much money for me.
