ZED news update

Recommended Posts

Two things, we have been doing a lot of old school amplifier upgrading

lately and it seems that so many guys do not want the overseas junk but would

rather upgrade their older amps.

$49 no

fault found, $89 to repair and phone estimate on those badly blown amplifiers.

We do the whole deal, BB upgrade where possible and if requested, capacitor

upgrades, Mosfet and output transistor upgrades and even change the power

transformer for better regulation and bottom end "slam".

We currently do about 4-6 repairs a day but would like to increase this as

so many guys send their amplifiers to shops who mess them up even further.

Finally Zed will introduce new amplifiers BUT not what you think.

I have completed the design of a ultra high quality class D and on my

listening tests it rivals my class A-B designs.

The whole idea of class D is small, light weight, more efficient and less

expensive than Class A-B Dollar per watt.

Regards

Steve

Last I talked to Stephen, he said he is taking a different approach then other full range class-D's to improve the THD I believe.

I'll have to hear it to believe it, but i do hope they are as good or better than their old bb upgraded amps

If you can tell the difference between an AB and a D class amp that have identical THD numbers and power ratings, I've got oceanfront property in Montana that I'd love to sell you.

Comes with free $50,000 dollar RCA's. :P

All smart-assed comments aside, I hope they continue Stephen's legacy of making amazing amplifiers for the money.

I'd almost like to send in my USAcoustics to be upgraded, but I can't see sending in perfectly good working amps just to have them upgraded.

Stephen, I belive in your sound quailty amps, but if there anythng like the alpine pdx or the new jl's please tell me your will sound way better. I just got back into the audio scene last year. I tried to purchage a couple of yours but they where gone, so I bought two alpine pdx's. While I love the size, the power and sound isnt the best. Please keep your roots. Hell what am I saying....I'll just have to trust you, as I'll be selling my alpine's to purchage yours.

I have two questions... Maybe Mr Mantz can chime in...

Is the 2 channel a dual mono? Might be interesting to see a Full Range Class D dual mono :lockd:

I am looking for a subwoofer amp but I can't seem to find it... Have heard/tried quite a few class D and they ALL have the same problem:

They seem to be lacking power in the real deeeeeeep bass range (some amps even had regulated power supply which delivers the same RMS with a low or high voltage). I am pretty set to use a DLS A6... unless

Kelvin

I would say if anyone can do a class D right it would be Stephen. He has mentioned to me some pretty interesting things about the new amps and he will be doing things no one else is doing. So different, he is ggoing with epoxy boards to conceal layout to prevent copying.

From what I have heard and have read, I believe he is taking a different approach then the PDX design that will by-pass some of the noise issues they have. I have not heard them, but the new JL's are supposed to be very good (yes, half of what I read about them were from Manville himself), but it would be a very cool test to put the new ZED 2 channel against the JL HD 2 channel. :)

I'd put my money on preferring the Mantz design in that A/B. I am still in line.

Oh no doubt. I almost think I can get more power out of them as mine use the same boards as a higher model. At least that is the way I see it.

Pics of mine are here. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=24973

Where the comparison between the model numbers on the boards are like this.

USA2200F_____to___Model 600

200X2 @4ohms to 300X2 @4ohms

300X2 @2ohms to 400X2 @2ohms

USA2300F_____to___Model 1000

300X2 @4ohms to 500X2 @4ohms

400X2 @4ohms to 700X2 @4ohms

The new two channel KRONOS can be used as either a traditional two channel amplifier OR as a sub woofer amplifier. It has many unique features.

For those of you who are skeptical of class D amplifiers, please do not be. Great strides have been made over the years and the SQ our class Ds is equal to

that of our class A/B amplifiers

No KRONOS is a dual channel amplifier with a single power supply
