I use garlic powder all the time. It's an easy way out.

Use it in a lot of rubs.

Didn't say I won't use it, just I won't use a recipe that uses it.

For rubs I also use it....but I see no other purpose for it.

It's usually used when I didn't use enough in pre prep Sean. As in a sauce that didn't get enough garlic in the get go. I will use the powder to doctor it up as it is more mellow that fresh garlic that sometimes won't marry correctly.

It gets used in a few sauces I make. I probably should just crush a clove. Laziness and never thinking to just crush it. Momentum has me not changing I suppose.

I buy a lot of preminced stuff, and whole heads, but the powder still gets use.

Garlic is best with butter in a frying pan, but it makes me stink and nobody will get near me when I eat it like that. It comes out my pores like you wiould not believe.

I used to use the preminced stuff, but it tastes like shit in comparison; however, it's unfair. I can break down cloves rather quickly. The trick is buying ones the skin come off easier which you can tell by squishing and flexing in the store. ;)

It is also a GREAT thing to practice your knife skills on. And yes, I use my 10" Shun to mince them up.

so if a recipe called for 3.5 teaspoons of garlic powder, I would use ~28 cloves of garlic? Seems a bit much; I would go with 1 tsp to 1 clove myself

I would never use a recipe that calls for garlic powder

Agreed

x3

Just saw that conversion in another forum and had to do a double take

Yer, doin' it wrong. Garlic paste is WAY easier to make with a knife.

Use more of the flat and less of the edge. Salt is your abrasive.

I cook everything with onions, but I will not eat the onions themselves. Strictly for flavor here. I will however eat them raw on burgers. I can't have a burger without a couple rings of yellow onion and some hamburger dill chips.

Garlic paste is definitely easier with a knife. I meant precooked produce more than anything, carrots, celery, parsnips, onions, peppers, etc.
