does it matter how far the fuse is from the battery, as long as it's within 18"? more specifically can it ever be too close to the battery? i installed new wires in my friends car (power and grounds) and its only about 6" from the battery. his fuse keeps blowing so he tried a bigger fuse (still only 80 amps) could that be the problem? i dont know the specifics on what amp and such but its probably 7-900 watts. should he just upgrade to a 150 amp fuse? its 4 AWG.

how far it is from the battery doesn't matter (as long as it is within 12inch or so) it can even be 3inch or even 1inch! . but it is 4gauge you should have a 120amp fuse in there. no more then 120amps though

although 80amps should be enought for 950watts of power so i wonder why the fuse keep blowing? also how many fuses are on the amp? and what is the amp?

r-u sure the amp is not blown??? or the power wire is grounded some were???? this will cause it but all the rest ken said is true i am just looking for the posible cause before you put another fuse in which could catch the car on fire if the wires insulator is cut threw or or the amp is blown some time the amp will connect to ground when blown why ??????

he ordered a 150 yesterday, before i talked to him but he was on caraudio.com forums or something and they told him to get that size "just in case" but he is sick so i dont know how many, amps each are on the amp. but its a lanzar, crazy advertised 4k watts or something but he is running at 2 ohms so who knows. he confuses me when he talks about all that.. he is a crazy kid in general lol. but thanks for clearing up the distance, i just didnt want it to be ME that cause the problems ;)

pretty sure its not blown, its brand new. but with how he had his settings before i got to it, it very well could be. he thought the gain should be all the way up. i almost cried... but after i was done with it it was working fine and all, i grounded it properly with the 4 awg. power wire is BRAND new, we bought it right before i installed it a couple days ago, would the small fuse have burnt through it that fast?

wiat your buddy is running a lanzer 4k amp and you are using a 4awg wire to push 4krms? you know the max you can get out of 4awg wire is like 1200rms right? so the fuse blowing is good lol when fuses blow they blow to protect you or your amp. also did you grind away the paint before grounding

and i think a 150 mini anl fuse is to unsafe to use man. the 4awg wire melts at like 90-100 degress and when wire melts it starts a fire so be very carful! also can you find a link and post it of the amp!

i found 2 amps! which one is it? also if you need to do 150 amps you shuold step up to 0/1 wire and use a reducer to be safe. (if the amp has 4gauge wire terminals and not 0/1 whihc would be odd b/c 4krms should have at least 1 if nto 2 0/1 power and ground terminals)

likei said, he is confusing when he talks. but we arent running it at 1 ohm, we are at 2, so nowhere near 4k watts. and yeah, i sanded the paint away.

i tried to talk him into the 1/0 wire but he didnt want to waste time for shipping, he was in a hurry and wanted to get it done that day. and i doubt he will buy more wire since he just spent 80$ on the 4 awg no-name kit (local shop) and neither of those amps.. im still looking for it, he got it on amazon

oop, found it. ok figured out why i always get so confused when he talks to me. he always talks about peak wattage.. ive told him that doesnt count only rms does, but he likes the sound of it better i guess. anyways here it is

http://www.amazon.com/Lanzar-MXA282-4000-Watt-2-Channel-High-Power/dp/B000E3ZDP0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247884870&sr=8-1

and two of those. so we are at 4 ohms... no i didnt bridge them. we we are at *advertised* 2k watts.. i dont know anything about lanzar, how are they on advertised wattage, how true is it?

and i could barely fit the 4 gauge wire in the terminal. so we would have to reduce it even if he did buy the 1/0

hey he should haeve gotten his 4gauge kit off of knu for like 30-40$ shipped.

but i have heard about those amps if they say 2krms they really mean around 1800rms. you need a constant 14plus volts to get the 2k advertised power. also i thikn once you upgrade that fues to a safe 120amp mini anl you should be fine. let us know though!!

x2 sundown > life!! lol!! you know what though using a 2channel amp isn't the way to push a piar of amps man. you should hook those amps in parellel (run them at 1ohm) and buy my sae1200 off of me!! lol!! (sundown amp) p/m me if you are interested!!
