I was reading around and saw that people recommended using hurricane nuts to bolt the subs in to prevent screws from stripping out of the mdf.

not really. what kind of screws do you recommend?

I just use screws 1.5" long to make it through all the wood.

would an inch work fine? since I have the .75" mdf and then the sub?
