Wife's 98 Ram Blow Through

Recommended Posts

Work has been crazy but finally had a little time to work on it today.

Rockford fosgate components.

Tweets are in, kicks started, once it warms up I will finish up the fiberglassing.

I am hoping to get some time tomorrow.

Front stage is taking shape, your wife should be really happy. Wish my wife would let me do a little something with her ride.

My wife is cool like that, the only issue I have is she has no sense of SQ..... lol

However 99% of the music she listens to is rap,r&b, and dance club.

so it works for her.

Change of plans on the sub.

Going to try a new design enclosure for the Mach 5 IXL 12.

not sure if it will work but it's just time and some wood so why not try it.

I used my grandfathers shop since it's still cold out.

I started the quarter wave enclosure. I still have some more work just ran out of time.

7" x 12" x 113" long should be 30 Hz.

48" wide x 25" deep at the deepest x 13.5" tall.

I had to use 3/4" counter top due to a 3 week wait for MDF or birch, but this will due for now.

ok some pics.

I picked up some more materials tonight.

I still have to glue and put in some bracing, I think I am going to bedliner the entire outside.

hopefully the weather cooperates and I'll be making the cut soon.

I got the enclosure all together. But before I cut the hole I wanted to hear it.

so I put the enclosure in where the back seat normally is.

I hooked it up to the PG 1200.1 @ 4 ohms

As I started to listen to it I felt it was missing the lower notes.

I checked all the settings and turned it up and down, played with the X-over and subsonic.

I still was very un-impressed. I checked out several bass heavy songs and it was just lacking.

Then!

While listening to it my song opened the drivers door.

WOW what a difference!!!! All of the notes were present and the truck was shaking like mad.

Shut the door and back to very dull.

Now I know doors open are always a little louder, but this is unbelievable.

Did I mess up the box?

Any Idea's?

So I was very disappointed with how this sounded and decided to take a little time to listen to several different cd's.

Results!

99% of the problem was the cd she had in! It had alot of different songs that she always listens to however I didn't realize how low the quality of the cd was.

As I listened to several other cd's, Radio and MP3's I was extremely impressed. The detail and the low-lows were back and it was able to get impressively loud.(now this is by no means a SQ setup. But it sounds good) On the very low notes now it flex's the back window so bad that the latch unlatched. For a single 12 I was impressed just how loud it got.

True test!

I had the wife listen to it and you couldn't of slapped the smile off her face!!

Now she is impatient to get this finished. But I still have alot of work to do.

1.Glass the kicks

2.Run all the new power, grounds, rca's, speaker wire to doors and kicks.

3.Install amps

4.Sound Deadening

5.Cut hole in cab and box (install boot)

6.Rebuild enclosure out of birch(bedliner entire enclosure)

7.Bed cover

So pending work and weather will determine how fast this all happens.

So it's been a while,

I ended up building an enclosure for the MJ 18. I did a 15' x 12" cut through and it sounds great. I glassed the kicks temp installed still need to be sanded and painted.

I'll try and get some pics soon. The wife started a new job and the schedules are tough.
