Sundown E-10/12/15 Prototype Photos

Recommended Posts

I've been busy... if you cannot tell by all the new product / new prototype threads the last two days.

I've been quietly doing testing on some E line prototypes for a bit... and based on what I've learned, tested, etc this is what I've come up with for these guys. Rating will be 300-400 RMS pending a bit more testing on the end product. I've tested some other very good prototypes as well but I feel like these best represent a "Sundown Woofer" as in what our customers expect to get from us.

These just finished up at our factory so I should have them in a week or two for some videos and whatnot.

IMO these are a little different than what you are used to seeing from an entry line driver

Pricing Estimate from authorized dealer :

E-10 : $105

E-12 : $110

E-15 : $130

All specs are with minimal break-in time.

Frames will be black when produced.

!!! I DO NOT HAVE THE ETA JUST YET !!!

All of them feature foam surrounds, dust caps similar to the SA line, high excursion spiders, and excellent coil ventilation for an Entry level driver. The stamped frames are a very strong tooling as well.

E-10/12/15 Prototypes are here! After initial testing the only thing I need to do is tool some spacers to put under the frames as these bad boys can get moving a good bit ! Otherwise I'm very pleased so far.

The SA and SD's lil buddy!

Awesome prices. Sorry if someone asked already but will there be a pre order?

I don't have much in the way of other brand stuff to compare except an older Memphis HPO and many of you may be familiar with it... you can see the E line motor is no slouch and ALOT more than you would expect to get from a small line driver for around 100 bucks retail.

The E motor has more steel than the HPO and a wider magnet... just a shorter stack of ferrite.

* Gap vents and the "neat" touches I did cosmetically on the steel shaping

When they are in production I'll work on a pre-order.

Wow those are BEEF! I like the steel basket, will it get painted black? Rubber Sundown boot?

These are going to be a great seller for dealers!

Yes it will be painted black -- I am not sure on the boot just yet.

I'd rather go ahead and get them out there and worry about things like the boot a bit later on.

You never stop working, do you? :)

Uh, this is Jakes job/life, sooooo why wouldn't he keep developing products?

I assume he'll keep working until he retires or no longer able like most people....

But nice looking entry level I must say.

Thermal test completed @ 60 Hz sine wave :

TIME // CLAMPED WATTS

THERMAL_TEST.jpg

At ~400 the heat wasn't building up any faster than it could be dealt with as demonstrated by the minimal drop in power over time once it hit operating temp. So I feel the 400 RMS rating is well deserved -- it could literally handle that "all day" so to speak.

Then we hit it with more power after the typical 5 minute test as we normally do... it took over 2 minutes at 500-700 after that to kill it.

Conclusion... thermal capacity is a non-issue on this design @ 400 RMS.

I have a big, long, boring video I may upload for the test as well.

Little inside view after we cut it up :

Darn impressive for the price point these woofers will come in at.

Will the thermal handling increase when you add the SA style spacer?

No it won't -- the spacer is solid for these as the frame is already vented. Additional spacer venting would provide no benefits.

Nice job Jacob! This line will appeal to a much different crowd than most other Sundown gear.

I am looking into starting production in less than 30-days... so keep your eyes peeled for a pre-order special.

Testing 400-watt E-15 prototype in free air. As per my comments in the video we'll have 8mm more rearward clearance on production (16mm p-p) so the driver will support even more throw before any mechanical tapping.
