Help me choose a sub...

Recommended Posts

Looking to go with a 12" sub hopefully but the box specs are the same if it was a 10 or 12 inch sub.

Specs are:

1 ft 3 sealed.

5.75 mounting depth

Going to be a stealth box custom made by someone other than jl...

I was thinking sundown sd12?  Anything out there that i could fit in a box like that and get some decent output?

I was just checking out subs and the shortest depth I could find other than the sd was 6". Your best bet would probably be to go with the sd12.

Going to run it off my cadence a7hc.  so 1200 max at 1 ohm.

Get a d4 sd12 and run it at 2 ohms off that amp.

why not just run a 2ohm at 1 ohm?  is that just cause 800 watts is safer?  I think the sundowns can take more than they are rated usually.

It's rated at 500rms. 1200 is over double what it's rated. Running it at 2 ohms will give it plenty of power and most likely not be a noticeable output from 2 to 1 ohm. 2 ohms is also more efficient.

the box is going to be going down the side so max is like 5.25 maybe a touch more.  I know its shallow.

5.25 or 5.75? Your first post said 5.75. Kinda sucks if you could get another in you could really open your options lol

Cramping a 12 will be worse than utilizing a 10. Some used options but new there isn't so much that is exciting at that depth.

That's what your going to have to find. Go on craigslist, the classifieds or other forums to find used.

JL tw5 and the stereo integrity bm mkIII are both great shallow woofers.

JL also just released the 10TW3 which is pretty reasonably priced.

Alpine's Type R shallows appear to be pretty well designed as well.
