PHATBOi's Sundown X12 Build

Recommended Posts

Couldn't take not having bass any longer. Pulled the trigger on a B-stock Sundown X12D2 from EMF. Going to order a Shark Audio SHKAMP-2500D today from ebay for $99 shipped to power it with till I can get a better amp.

Seen this as I was putting away the box. Explains the B-stock designation.

I'm guessing they smudged the finish as seen here:

Think it looks better than the AP's.

My collection. Want to put the 2 big 2 channels on the mids, one for each bridged at 8 ohms, then the small 2 channel on my tweets, all ran thru the crossover with tweets 5-6.5K and up and the mids down to 80-100 bandpassed with the HPF on the head unit.

Thanks.

If you watch the last vid, I removed the little 4" sub, or whatever it is, from my PC subwoofer and hooked the X12 up to the speaker wires for it. After I disconnected the X12 and threw the regular 4" sub back in, I was disappointed cause the X12 sounded so much better.

2002 Mazda MPV minivan. Had to give up my 2003 Protégé ES last year as the family was getting to big to fit in it, lol. 3 kids + small car isn't good.

Shark 2500 shipped out today.

Also ordered a

50ft roll of Sky High 14 Gauge speaker wire

to redo my runs for my mids and highs and 10ft of blue & 10ft of black

Install Bay 10 Gauge to use for speaker wire on the sub to amp connection.

Bought the RCA's to hookup the Alphasonic crossover and amps for my front stage,

as well as 5ft of Bullz 1/0 for the amp power and ground, from Back yard

Customs.

Should have everything playing by this weekend.

Got it working on the Alphasonik. 100 rms. Sounds great on the lows. Sub has a ticking noise (almost like something tapping the bottom of the cone) on the high notes. Think the gain was up to high on the amp distorting it.

I didn't think 100 watts would move it that much.  Cool.  Bet the wait for the amp is killing you.lol

Personal I would have got a better amp for that sub. But it should be on for now just give it a bit and you will probly e wanting a amp that will do rated rms lol

I do plan on getting a better amp eventually, just spent to much money on the sub and had to get what I could for now. But it kills me when everyone talks shit about "budget" amps, lol. If I'm going into it knowing that the amp isn't going to do 2K, but will still do 1.2-1.5 clean, what does it matter if it does rated? Still a damn good deal for $99 shipped. I could understand if I was dumb enough to think it would actually do 2K clean, but I know how to set my gains.

That's why I said it will be ok for now. I bet it will still get down with that amp just fine for a tease lol

Thinking this box must be fairly efficient. Have it on 100 rms now and it is moving pretty damn good. Has the back hatch flexing and moves my hat on my head in the drivers seat with the door open.

I agree with the cost, how could you go wrong.  Even made me look at the Shark amps.lol  Can't wait to see it with some proper power.

hey nothing wrong with them (budget amps), if you know what you are getting into ahead of time. I'm running a new Precision Power amp, was fairly inexpensive, but then I'm not expecting it to be the next man made marvel, just wanted something that'll get my sub moving a little.
