Is this a good amp for 2 18" BTLs

Recommended Posts

I found two Power Acoustik SL-3400D amps for $350 each. Each one puts out 2600watts x1 at 1 ohm. Would one of these on each of the BTLs be good start on powering it or would it be underpowering it? The BTLs have the Cooling, Third Magnet, and the HiXm coil. This will be a daily setup as well.

If that's RMS power then you should be ok. I liked 2kwrms, but to me it wasn't enough. You say starting place, then yes. I had mine for a few months on around 4k rms total, then upped it when I had the money. If this is what you mean, why not? I don't think it will be too much at all if the signal is clean. Good luck.

personally i wouldnt go with PA....they wont do anything close to rated power nor will they put out anything close to a clean signal...they are very tough amps but i'd spend your money elsewhere

dont know i had the 3000db i think it was, blew a cap and a resistor in the amp, still cuts on but i cant hook up any inputs, lol...

but any way.

It was supposed to be 2300watts at 1 ohm i had it at .5, then i had the 2500. and let me just say that it was a major difference so yea def, not rated power.

So what would yall recommend for 2 good amps that put out over 2000 w, but i dont want to spend too much. I know "you get what you pay for" but im looking for some good amps that just arent too expensive. I might be going with 2 15" BTLs instead of 2 18". (i dont think i could handle the power of 2 18" haha)

Some good amps that put out 2K each?

i'd lo0k at some sundown saz-1500d (i know it's not quite 2K but they are pretty damn good amps at 1,500 watts a piece)...

Contact Denim or SSaudio they are authorized dealers here on the forum...

I'd also look at possibly a few memphis or kicker amps....

I'd also look at the Us Amps Merlin md.3d

you can contact Flakko on these forums for a good price...

I'd call hifonics. In another thread someone said they could get an xx-Goliath for $1k or less (can't remember). That would be great on 2 btls. If there's a set budget that would help, or are you willing to wait a while to get what you want?

I want to try to stay under $2200 (flexible) for both BTLs and either an amp for each sub or a big amp for both. I havent ordered anything yet, Im just kind of searching around and trying to get everything together so I can get it all at once. Im not in a big hurry to buy everything right now because i still have to get the money.

Also, if i was going to run one mono amp on each BTL i would need dual 2 ohms right?

I know this is a little off subject but, providing the right enclosures and setups for each, would a 15" BTL beat out a 18" BL?

Steve that depends on the amps output...

meaning if an amp is only stable at 2ohms then you would get a dual 1ohm BTL

if they are stable down to 1 ohm then yeah the dual 2 ohm would suffice...

So with the BTL's i'd say that would run you on the high end both BTL's would be around 1 grand

that leaves about 1200 for an amp

if you could spare another 600 I would highly suggest 2 saz-3000d man (i believe they are going to be going for 900 one around there)....

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=7900

Read up on them bro i promise they slam..

Or seriously look into the memphis 4Ks Talk to Tej i believe he has 2 of them and they didn't break the bank too much...

Shoot shawn a PM as well for some info on some kicker amps too..

EDIT:

your last question...

You would need to define "beat out"

IMO 15's are low end monsters that can get low and loud...

To me it would depend on space....

15's may afford you more space for a much better box....

Thanks for all the help and sorry for the noobness. This is gonna be my first system and i want to do it right the first time.

I think im going to go with 2 15" BTLs instead. Do you think they would still be able to handle the Orion amps that djjdnap recommended daily? 2500watts RMS x1 at 1 ohm (On each BTL)

EDIT:

I have a friend who can build a box for them. I was thinking either 9-10 cuft but what should i tune it to for daily listening? All music, no competitions.

I would tune it to around 32-34 htz for daily (since most songs really don't get lower then that)

that should be a nice box for those 2 15's (9 cuft) I'd go with roughly 135 square inches of port area...

Yes imo the BTLs will be able to handle those amps...

I highly and i do mean HIGHLY recommend you take a look at your electrical Steve...

I would suggest at the very least upgrade the bat under the hood and get two batts (one per amp) for the sub amps.... If anything shoot for a HO alternator (which i recommend a iraggi HO alternator about 300amps would be good)... A poor electrical can end up damaging your expensive hard earned stereo system...

I will definately upgrade my altenator and batteries. I was also going to do the big 3 upgrade as well with plenty of 1/0 gauge wire.

the PA A3000db (have the same board as the Planet Audio TT2250 and the VX2200) are good amps for the money they do around 1800RMS at 1 ohm. One per sub will be fine. I have ran them down to .667 and that was even for daily so they are durable as well. U just need good electical and send the amps a good signal. (look into some audiocontrol and see what fits)
