Blown outputs is an easy fix for Chris. Just $$$ which sux but still a good amplifier. As a rule of thumb when I hook up an amplifier I always hook up power last or insert fuse in amp or fuse holder.

To help answer the last section of your "issue". Trying to load a subwoofer with a baffle over it may work if it is designed correctly. After you removed the sealants you tried to use you had a properly loaded (using the trunk with the subwoofer mounted near the trunk lid) subwoofer for your setup. Hense no gain with trunk lid open or closed. Subwoofer Placement

Here's one pretty decent place to get it, fairly inexpensive as well. All kinds of colors, including pink. Here the same place has braided sleeving.... Better way to go IMHO!!

Wood thickness is by far one of the most important things when creating a system. Like they said up there, the thicker the more durable, the less flex you have. Also, bracing is a must!

Anyone have any recommendations on a good 500+/- watt amp? I'm bringing my Fi Q 18" home and I won't be using it for car audio for a while The box was tuned to 29hz, and I don't mind if I can't hit the ultra low notes in movies, but I'll mostly use it listening to music. Thanks
