Find what is making the noise and put some rubber between the parts that are moving. It worked for me so far.

But my sub is firing up and the port through the side of the trunk.

MLV between the sheet metal and the covering.... that'll reduce panel resonance on the hatch door.

i used deadener on all the sheet metal and the plastic panel of my blazer. then ensolited the whole panel and one side of the tail gate. no more rattles here

If it's like my problem it's the windows rattling not the hatch itself.

I would have to agree with bassahaulic concerning the window, if you've taken care of all rattles outside of that. What is the equipment being ran? If you're running something of decent size and power it could be the gate itself slapping against the body of the truck. Does pushing the gate in help?
