JL audio tw5 13.5" Dust-Cap issue

Recommended Posts

Searching through my local craigslist and stumbled upon a TW5 13.5 for $75. It however has a large crack in what I believe to be the dust cap? I've just never seen a dust cap made out of a material like the one I'm looking at which arises my suspicion as to whether or not it is actually a dust cap. Through my googling, I read that re-coning JL audio woofers is strictly done by JL audio. If this is just a dust cap issue, I can fix this myself correct? I've heard of people using epoxy/silicone for this process. Obviously I would like to fix the crack in the woofer and use it.

Is this as easily fixable as I suspect?

Thanks for your time! smile.png

Here's a photo to explain more in depth the issue

I can't see the crack very well, but I would just use some clear epoxy or amazing goop.

Or contact duran for a CF dustcap!

Another good option, would look really good.

What a steal! I am a picky SOB, so I would have a new cap put on or a recone. Duran has made me a few carbon fiber caps. I would recommend his products highly.

Ahhhh precious craigslist.

Sent the young man a text message:

"Hey! I saw your craigslist posting and I'm interested in your JL audio TW5. I'll pay your asking price today and meet you wherever you would like. thanks for your time!"

He sent me his address and told me to come on by. So I did. Guess what?! He already sold it! I get there and he's all like

"Oh man I thought you wanted my SA8's."

Yeah, cause JL audio TW5 looks a hell of a lot like SA 8.
