independant voicecoil powering

Recommended Posts

I have a 4 channel amp (Alpine PDX 4.150)

I have a component set with passive crossovers.

I have a dual 4 ohm 8" sub.

Channel 1 on the Left Front

Channel 2 on the Right Front

Channel 3 on one of the 2 4 ohm voice coils on the sub

Channel 4 on the other 4ohm voice coil

I thought the amp would bridge down to 2 ohms but it does not so can I power each of the 4ohm voice coils off one channel of the amp?

Thoughts?

That should work fine, just make sure you set your low pass. You most likely don't have a subsonic though...

I've never done this in the past. Usually bridge the 2 channels to the proper ohm load.

Mistakenly thought this amp was flexible.

Hope it's not noisy on the components.

Absolutely no problem. Real common implementation in fact.

you could wire the sub in series to 8ohm and bridge to the rear channels on the amp. might save some wire.
