Laurie's Build Log

Recommended Posts

This will be my first build log so any suggestions to improve it are welcome.

This build is going to take a long time and I'm in no rush. Slowly as I get cash I'll be buying the parts one by one.

I'll be going for an active set up.

Car: 2006 Toyota Camry Altise Limited V6

Here's my shopping list:

Head unit: Pioneer DEH-80PRS

This head unit has all the features I want for the active set up.

Mid Drivers: Morel Supreme SCM634 Carbon Fiber Cone 6" Midrange

Tweeters: Morel CAT308 1" Textile Dome Tweeter

Subs: 2x Fi Q15s (Bought)

4 Channel Amp: Undecided

Mono Amp: Crescendo Audio BC3500D/Crescendo Audio BC2000D

Good value for money on the BC2000D.

Just not sure if I want to run my subs with a bit more power and go for a bigger amp like the 3500D.

Let me know if you think anything on the list needs to be replaced and offer me some suggestions.

I will also be upgrading my alternator and getting an additional Group 31 battery also.

Build log begins...

Step 1: Building the Sub Box

I'm going for a sealed box with 2.5cuft per speaker.

I can only work on the box a little bit at a time and I'm doing it at a friends house so it's gonna take a while.

Build Day 1:

I got all of the MDF cut to size and used CNC to cut the exact Cut ID for the holes in the front board.

Day 2:

Got the vertical boards done and the horizontal bracing in.

Day 3:

Over-Bracing continues.

Got the vertical bracing in. Will finish the box build next session. Don't have braces so I stacked some beer cartons + tyres on top for weight.

Thanks mate. I'm looking forward to finishing the box build tomorrow and then I'm just waiting on the subs to arrive. Hopefully they are here in the next week or two.

Looks good, I'm curious as to how well that brack works out. Not the dowels, but the wider ones.

Yeah, I don't know if you can tell by the picture but there will be a piece of dowel connecting each horizontal bracket to the back wall of the sub.

I'm not sure if I made them too thick but that can always be fixed at a later date. I went a bit overboard with the bracings considering how thick the MDF of the box is.

All I know is the box is going to be solid as a rock.

Nice choice on mids and tweets.. Pricey..

I figure you like sealed boxes better than ported? Why did you choose to do 2 sealed 15's vs 1 ported and save money? Just curious, tuned in to see how this turns out :)

A mix of wanting good sound quality and wanting to make my own box. I'm not very experienced when it comes to building and a sealed enclosure seems like a good place to start. I've already learned a lot from making this box and in the future I would be much more confident in making another sealed or attempting a ported box.

Also, got the back board attached today. Just gonna wait on the subs to arrive before doing anything else.

Been really busy at work so haven't had time to finish the box yet.

Got the front board on then got rid of a lot of excess glue on the joints and put gap-filler inside the box to seal it up.

Here's how it's looking:

I'm hoping to put the carpet on tonight and then put the subs in!

I wouldn't use a terminal cup anyway. Drill a small hole to run your wires and seal it up.

I would rather do that, but what do I use to seal around the cables?

Well done!

The Peroni containers made me thirsty. smile.png

Cheers mate, a hard earned thirst!

Make the hole just big enough to jam the wire through and seal it up.
