2002 Ford Explorer

Recommended Posts

I have finally began to piece together the equipment for my next install. Being away at school makes it difficult to work on things, so slowly but surely it will get done. I'll try to keep this thread updated as I go along.

To begin, the vehicle will be a 2002 Ford Explorer.

Two 12" Fi Qs

Orion 8004

AudioControl EQX

I began by tearing the entire out so I could lay this down:Two rolls of RAAMmat BXT and 9 yards of Ensolite.

Here is how the truck looked originally:

I began in the back and worked my way up front. In some photos you will see I used Spray Foam to fill in some of the space in the panels.

I then laid Ensolite over all of the deadener:

I did both front doors with about five layers total of RAAMmat, but since it is such a tight space, the photos didn't turn out very good.

Afterwards, I began to put it all back together:

That's it for now. I'll try to remember to get pictures of everything as I go along. Sorry this post wasn't very interesting, but it is all part of the process.

Thanks. I can already tell a difference the deadener has made.

Nick is hooking me up with what he is running.

Similar to AA Poly mids but with a carbon fiber cone.

Should be fun. Just need some motivation.

I'll post up box specs later to see which box you guys think I should run.

There are three possible ways I may do the box.

or

or Use the second one, but mount the woofers on the front of the box.

Does anyone have any experience with 3rd Generation Explorers and which way works best?

All of the box specs are the same, 5cu. ft. tuned to 33Hz.

Thanks everyone.

I'm open to suggestions, so if you feel I should do something a different way, please suggest it.

KB, I am glad you were able to get all the amps and equipment and finally get started. From my experience in my explorer, with countless boxes, with the Q's being a great SQ sub, I would suggest rear fire them. Not sure if you did, but hope you have some deadener for the doors & hatch too. For daily everything kept under 34hz tuning did well.

I did both front doors with about five layers total of deadener and the rear hatch with about two layers. I do still have some extra deadener left, so I was waiting until everything is installed before putting the rest on, that way I will see what areas are problematic.

I'm going to run the stock six disc headunit for a while, so the EQX will take care of all crossover settings and stuff.

I can't wait for Nick to get these speakers in.

There will defiantly be many.

Hopefully this weekend I'll get some 1/0 run and possibly the false floor fabricated, then again it is Easter so who knows.

This is almost 100% exactly what my Q's are in. I wish I had experience with your truck to help out but I have never done anything in that gen Explorer.

Everything looks great so far! Keep up the good work! :)

I'm probably going to run subs and port both back.

Thanks for the comments.
