Recommended Posts

Do you have to put it in the oven?

Might work, might not but try some dry ice on there.

Let it sit and then see if the glue will crack off by hitting it

um, how do you recone it properly??

I cut the surround piece of of the cone, now the cone is still attached to the spider and niether one seems to want to move.

Thats what i'm saying how do you get it off?

oohh.

assumjing that You have the recone parts: cut the spiders all the way around. Cut the coil leads as well. Pull the assembly out. You'll need to put ducttape or similar over the gap at this point, to make sure that nothing gets in there. Now grind, pry, scrape, cut, or dissolve the glue that is keeping the remaining bits of spider to the basket.

I was just tthinking they'd send you a recone all in once peice. Like just re-glueing the surround to the basket.

well i dont have a recone kit coming in the mail.

I was just going to try and replace the coil since that is the only thing messed up with the sub.

you really, um... cant do that.

call the company of your subwoofer. ask them for a recone kit. remove the ENTIRE cone\surround\spider\coil and mount it on your wall somewhere.

take the new 'moving assembly' wich is an ENTIRE replacement, and glue it where it should go (if you dont center that coil, youll have to buy another one. not a happy prospect...

Exactly...I was surprised at how many knowledgeable people were looking at this and not telling him this yet...lol...

So, as stated... YOU CAN'T just "replace the coil"...

sorry, I'm with kickin audio... I assumed that You were actually reconing the woofer. Not just trying to replace the coil.

Um, You would have to seperate all the pieces VERY carefully and cleanly (heat gun, CA dissolver, chisel) to get to the former itself. HUMONGOUS PITA.

Recone the whole baby.

yes, yes it is. :)

Well, You can keep the basket as well ;)

Unless You dont want to grind the spider & surround bits off of it, then You can order a new one of those as well.

Notice, You'll need to solder in new VC lead wires as well. Alot of folks forget about that beforehand.
