New wall going up in my 300zx

Recommended Posts

I started on a new wall for my z car today, I got a decent amount of progress done, and hope to finish tomorrow if the weather is right. The subs are Lanzar optidrive 1532 15" subs. This wall is 8.3 cubes with 120 inches of port, tuned to 39 hz.. The box hopefulyly will peak at 44-45 hz. The last time I checked my RF was 43 hz. The whole box will be 1.5 inches thick when completed.

Yeah, I also got a group 31 back there too :) The car has been lowered to the point the rear end is already bottomed out without any audio in it.

The wall is mostly complete all i have to do is brace the box some more and seal off the wall. This was my first time putting vinyl on anything, so yeah... it turned out pretty bad.....

Yeah, I had an 18" xcon walled. The Xcon is in perfect shape sitting right beside me in my room. The wall that the Xcon was in was about 3 years old and the mdf on the port started splitting while playing woofercooker by bass hit.

So, I was like F it, the Xcon is a ""SQL"" woofer, so it can't be that hard to make a louder setup. The opti's have a lot more car flex and feel louder, but on my meter I'm about 2 db quieter than my xcon was. I still need to seal off my wall, and I need to brace my port, the damn thing flexes like galloping gertie. I don't know what to do with the xcon. I really wish I had a 15, not a 18. I'm also pissed at SSA for making such a great woofer. For something that is not made to get loud, it can do it pretty well.......

Backhanded compliment :) I love the Xcon.

I did finally get the Optis louder then the Xcon. I had to brace the mess out of it, seal the car up, and remove my visors.

The loudest I got on the dash with the Xcon to was 153.9 @ 43hz with the windows down.

The opti's sealed were doing a 154.2, with the windows down a 155.4, both @ 42hz. These were metered on my Coustic RTA 33 which I believe reads about 4-6 db higher than a term lab. It's tough to gauge the stiffness of my meter, since I've only been to one competition using a TL and the only gauge I had of the TL's stiffness was my own eyes, ears, and body while getting demos.

I'm really considering entering some local usaci comps next year. After seeing what the "competition" is like, I think I would do surprisingly well. The state record in the class I'm thinking about entering is only a 149.....

Can someone please tell me who ever said the XCON was not made to be loud!!!!? I would love to meet this person, and would also guess, they have never heard one. Bunch of BS right there.
