Adding another 15 to my current box?

Recommended Posts

Whats up SSA!

I have 2 Ascendant Audio Mayhem 15's running on a Soundstream dtr 1.3400 at .25 ohm

(3400 rms @ .5 2200 rms @ 1ohm)

I have the subs in around 6.2 cubic ft net and they get loud but im itching to get louder if i can...

I can get 3 American Bass HD 15's dual 1's and wire to .67 ohm... But can i just make another hole in my box? Thats the most airspace available.

Goals.. Hit 150 db (currently 149.1)

Should i keep the 2 15's or get 3 ?

If its a bad question/ idea input on that would be apreciated

Thanks

Your best bet is to design and build a new box for the two 15s.

Also... Would it throw off any frequency response of the subs or enclosure?

Its tuned at 34 hz peaks at 49hz...

Yes and your port area is going to be inadequate. Adding any extra objects is going to throw off tuning.

I tried a box tuned higher but it dosnt sound apealing to me.

Any idea as to if a 6th order would get louder than a regular ported box?

Seems reasonable about port area and tunning being thrown off

Ill try redisigning a box and see what results i get

Thanks for the help

I would stick with a regular ported box. Stick with the AAs, add more port area, and if possible add more power.

Port length is what is bad about adding port area..

If the subs have more air space with the same power will it possibly get louder?

I was looking at some DD 9515's locally but dont have the money

Keep the Mayhems or sell them and get the 95's ?

What don't you like about the Mayhems?

I actually love the mayhems but i would like to get louder. Cosmetically they look bad but my friend said he would buy them

Seems kinda pointless ?

I think ill keep the mayhems and just work with enclosure designs

Higher tuning with a larger box volume will end up with an awesome low end output with good numbers.. Why does .9 dB matter when it's in audible to the ear?

When i metered 148.1 at 1 ohm and metered 149.1 same frequency... It sounded louder.. Noticably to where my ears started hurting/tickling

Where at 148.1 i had to lean towards the dash to get that feeling on the ears.

If you could tune a little higher it would help you. Would you be willing to go to 39-40hz? Try to get closer to your resonant frequency.

Yeah i can do that

So tuning near resonant frequency gets louder? Ive had other boxes peak at 45hz..

An increase in enclosure volume and/or power should get you to 150 and allow you to retain the lower tuning you desire.

I would get with one of the box designers/builders here on SSA and see what they have for a recommendation.

:morepower1: would help as well!

But don't get discouraged when the first attemp fails. Hands on learning is the best way to learn and succeed. SPL #'s take testing and building to reach your goals.
