Which Driver For My Application

Recommended Posts

Hey guy, am putting together a system for my ride which is a 2003 dodge Dakota Ext. Cab. Am planning on running 2 12" sealed in a 2.5 cu.ft (Net) enclosure because am a big guy and I don't have the additional space to go ported. Am debating whether to go with the Incriminator Audio LI 12 or the Sundown SA-12. I will be running the Sundown  SAX or SAZ 1200D amp. Am done with the Big 3 upgrade, and am using a UPS12-490MR battery to power my vehicle off of a stock alternator which is around 130 amp @ 3000 RPM, hopefully this will be enough to prevent dimming.

I haven't had any subwoofer experience with any of the 2 brands mentioned but from what I have read, both drivers are great in ported applications. I can't seem to find much on sealed applications so am hoping that guys that have ran these woofers sealed would chime in. What am really looking to find out is which drive tends to performs better in a sealed application. Some drivers are design for both other designed for either or, but these 2 drivers say that there designed for both. Am not trying to get into a this driver verses that driver thread because I know that both are great drivers, period. All am simply wanting is some feedback on how these drivers perform in a sealed enclosure. If there are other quality drivers in the same price range ($150 - $190) @ 600 watts a piece, please feel free to share.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can go ported with 10" drivers too. Or run a single driver : it would be cheaper.

SSA products perform very well in sealed application .

Thank you for the input guys, any others in my price range, lol? The reviews on these seems great from all the different sites I have visited but they are a bit out of my price range currently. Any views on the Fi X series subs?

Thanks

I just built a sealed 2.85ft^3 enclosure for a pair of 12" lethal injections, can't give a review as I have not installed it yet.

Its gonna be hard to say which one is better since I'm sure nobody has had both setups sealed before.

What are the actual dimensions that you have to work with? A ported 10" or 12" might be a better option.

How long before you try them out? I would really appreciate your feedback on those.

The budget was shipped price, the SA-12 is $195 shipped, IA LI-12 is $190 shipped (from a rep.) compared to the GCON which is $239 shipped. There is a decent price difference there when there are 2 woofers involved.

Honestly I don't even think I'm keeping my current car, after fixing a water leak I'm ready for something new. But if I toss it in the car anytime soon, I will definitely keep you posted.

Will the sundown 1200 be sufficient for those GCONs?

Oh yes!

You can't hear the difference between 600 wrms or 750 rms.

Only a spl meter would pick that up.

My current enclosure is 2.1 cu.ft net vol. (correction from the original post). Will a light stuffing of polyfill be necessary for a lower response or will this enclosure be find if I decided to go with the DCONs? This is the max size that I will be able to fit back there. I know some will say get a single 10 or 12 and go ported, but I prefer the sealed sound. I listen to mostly old school reggae for the most part with a touch of rap hear and there. I normally listen to singers like Jacob miller, Dennis brown, Freddie Macgregor, king jammy (dj), etc. Thanks

I have a single 12 gcon. Sealed at 1.6 cuft. In a passenger car. Love this sub. It surprises me everytime I hear it. I listen to rock, jazz, rap, hip hop, dubstep, country, & probably more. Haven't found anything that disappoints me. Ssa subs will not disappoint you. Even if its just one

Thanks for the info, Ill just be putting them in a 2.1 cb.ft enclosure with some polyfill. Am hoping that it wouldn't be too "top heavy" and will be able to hit the low notes.

Ok, a friend of mines wants to get rid of a pair of Image Dynamics IDQ12 V.4 D4 for $400.00. How do these subs compare to the GCONs. I've read that the ID does very well in sealed applications and that's what am going for. Anyone with first hand experience with these subs?

Thanks

I got bored and tired of looking at my box sitting in my dining room so I installed it a few minutes ago, I didn't get a lot of listening time but tried a few tracks. They sound good but don't have the ouput I'm used to with ported enclosures, but that was expected. Can't wait for more time with these. Nothing special as far as a review, can't wait to try these ported.
