Bought a boat sight unseen with a wet test acceptance upcoming....in Tempe Az.

Not opposed if someone wants to do it for me and are already there........

I'm curious what boat you're looking into buying. My family owns a MasterCraft dealership and dads been selling boats for years so its an interest of mine. Did you end up going with that Malibu? They're straight inboards right?

I'd be happy to check it out if you want. I don't know hardly anything about boats, but I can definitely go over it with a careful eye. Or if you have a checklist or something.

Or if you just want to fly down, it'd be awesome to grab a beer again. I know where most of the lakes in the area are.

Currently arriving at 11:30 on Monday night and leaving Tuesday at 3:25. All the other times didn't allow me to use miles and a $5 ticket versus $550 sounded like a plan. I'll see if I can alter that though as it sucks to arrive that late and the test drive/paperwork will probably eat all Tuesday.

I haven't paid for it yet. 2004 Malibu 23 LSV. Straight inboard, similar to the X-35 but with less deadrise and a flatter transom so it will ski better perhaps but have less rough water capability.

Only two brands I was/am considering. Mastercraft and Malibu. Fucking impossible to find a decently priced used MasterCraft in a modern hull so Malibu it was. I did buy this one potentially as a temporary boat as I bought it at a price I think I can flip it for another $5g's up here which covers the shipping and leaves me a few g's leftover. Sort of a test bed to see if I like this style of boat for our lake.

Reason for a wakeboard boat is the slip that I own is limited to a 24' boat and I want as much room as possible, but am not old enough for a pontoon. Figured the seating, stereo, fit and finish and resale are where it is at in those two brands. If your family has an old X-15, X-35 or Maristar 215,235 I am interested. Not so much in the X-30,230 or anything older as my mantra is and always be that buying price doesn't matter, but buying price - selling price does and for that the most recent hull that is depreciated the furthest is best.

We don't have anything used at the moment. I just included that information to explain why I was asking you about it. We don't put much of our focus in boats anymore. If someone wants to order a new one custom in Cincinnati they go can go through us. Buying a brand new boat isn't something I would do personally, lol. Our current runabout is an older Cudi Natique. I don't think something like that would have the space you're looking for. The bows on Malibu's and MasterCrafts are very spacious so I understand your reasoning for choosing a wakeboard boat. If you do get into skiing a straight inboard is great, they through out a much nicer wake than an I/O. I can say that finding a used MasterCraft for a decent price in good shape is a dificult task so Malibu seems like a good choice. Good luck with the purchase I hope it all works out well.

Bow is actually small on the Malibu which is fine, I think bows are mostly useless. Kids sit up there on plane and chicks if you are going to put around, but otherwise everyone wants to be in the back. In particular on a lake with 5' waves regularly.

There was an X-45 locally which I REALLY want but it won't fit in our slip.

As a reference for a "cruiser" here are some pics that show you why I am interested in the Malibu :) Oh, and of course the "car audio" portion has to be included :fing34:

This is the one I really want, but it is nearly 2x the price of what I've negotiated on the blue one.

http://www.dfwboats.com/site_page_309/item_782356.html?listing_page=listing_sum_index_1.html

I know the blue one is a little dirty and needs a little TLC, but considering it is going to be moored (read float) at my slip getting one in stellar shape just means more depreciation for me. Those pics are also pre-clean up and detail which always makes a HUGE difference on boats.

I can't view those pictures here at work sadly. Moving to a new office and while that's happening I'm stuck on a computer running IE6. I looked into that malibu though and see what you mean about the bow, but I know what you mean about chicks and kids being the only ones who ride up there. We took an X-Star out last summer andapparently the only thing that matters about that boat is that there's enough room to lay out on the bow lol. I wish I knew more about Malibu, but I just don't. Its always been MasterCraft and Supra. Having a boat with fat sacks makes wakeboarding 100x better :) if you haven't tried surfing behind a good wakeboard boat you really should. Its easier than wakeboarding and tons of fun. It sounds like you've got the boat situation all figured out (I'm not suprised) so I'm sure it will work out great. When I get out of here ill ask the old man what he knows about that bu ie anything on that model to check when buying used. You probably already know what to look for, but what the hey if I can help ill try.

Sweet looking boats Sean. I expect that the little man will be the Captain?

Replacing the Ranger for that reason. It isn't little man friendly and the time I have to use it alone is non-existent. With the Malibu I'll be able to take them with me and not worry which will allow me to use the boat 3+ times a week when home, if not more. Its going to get a grill of course which will helP :)

<-- learned to wakeboard when it was called skurfing because there was only one brand of board called a skurfer.

Hard as fucking shit to ride btw.

Two weeks ago I had never heard of wakesurfing. I now bought a boat thinking the primary thing I would do behind it is wakesurf :) Any hints on what I should look for in a board.

Do consider that I am 6'7" and 210lbs....

Boat has sacks already, and a dealer in town can set me up with another 750lbs for either side for $150 (I install)

As for the research it is probably okay. The 23 LSV is Malibu's prime boat. Not their comp boat, but better for wakesurfing and many like its wake better as well. Ski's decent as well since the hull is so flat.

2004 was the first year, but the electronics were carry over so there isn't any bullshit to die. All ballast pumps are easily accessible and the motor is the proven 5.7. Indmar which isn't the quality that MC uses, but in 2004 it was hard to build a bad marine GM smallblock.

This one received full service yearly and a new transmission a year and a half ago. Full records and seems to be in stellar condition hull wise with only some dirt showing its been used on the inside. Owner bought it new, traded it into the same store on a 247 (biggest one) so I'd bet he is using it mostly for surfing as well as that boat can out wakesurf a Centurion Enzo which is the surf boat of choice atm. Means all the better to me as that says the boat has a ton of 10-12 mph time and some 22mph time and probably not a lot of WOT. Has extra racks for both types of boards which is a tell tale sign as well and the engine compartment panel was removed in one pic showing to me that he had extra ballast for surfing he took out.

Decent amps, tower speakers, nice rack, and a motor that works. No dings in the prop and all in all in good condition. Considering the next closest one I could work on in price was 20% more expensive in an uglier color its a no brainer to me. Gotta love a rich guy broker boat who is only selling barely above trade-in value :) and that negotiated on top.

Anyone want to buy a Ranger 521vx Comanche? Every option possible for 2004 and the best outboard made. IMO the best color I've ever seen in a Ranger as well.

Funny thing is I am not a Ranger guy, would much rather have a Legend or Champion. Not a Malibu guy either as I'd rather have a MasterCraft, but damn when the price is right you buy. Had the Ranger for nearly 4 years and it should sell for more than I paid for it :)

Which of course is better than losing 4k on a boat I would have rather had.
