since our glorious " in-house" "professional-box-builder" could not seem to be of assistance in the past week and a half or so, i decided to try to cut out all three peces of my port all by myself,

just like the big boys do it!

first time, i chose just to over cut each kerf....

1/2" intervals, leaving a 1/4" of material at the bottom of each kerf....

you can see the outter walls of the port too

1-99.jpg

well, i tried to bend it nicely, it started to crack nicely, so a slammed it into the fence post nicley,

which did not turn out so nicely!

1-92.jpg

then we had to move shop cause of the rain.....

went to the first garage, thanks to old-man Steve for the temporary use of the garage but more importantaly, thanks for serving in two wars for our families!

this is our new work area....

1-93.jpg

so the first kerf stayed rather stiff.....

i closed up the spaceing to 3/8" and only left a 1/8" of material behind....

also cut the board long ways first this time around, liked it better too,

1-94.jpg

so, here it is, curled right up for us.....

and just like that, i was done with the progress, not a single thing has been done since, lol.....

oh well, at least i got to try a new trick....

i read a few articles, heard a few myths, discovered a few calculations, but in the end, i just decided to cut the wood.....it seemed to work easy enough for me.....

might throw some glue in it this weekend.....

not going to the show, not working, so definetly might work on the audio.

grabbed up some rattle cans, masking tape, sand paper, silicon, wood glue, and wood filler.....

got the resin on the side, port is cut, kerfed and ready to be assembled..........

mikey is coming over tomorrow with the clamps......

should make some head way on the build....

still gotta add a ground or two, build amp rack, build a battery box......sorta want a second d5100 for the back, might try to find one soon.

might do some deadening this week end too, ....................maybe.....

Any updates on the progress of that kerf port chop? I'm eager to see how the final product turned out. I can't wait for the meet up next weekend to hear yours and Mikey's.

yup, a little more progress bro!

these are the side pieces, sanded them down some while clamped together.....

the jigsaw favors a slight lean to it, so had to get them back to true 90' degree cuts....

1-101.jpg

um, lost pic of inside temp braceing....

but we strategically clamped and glued till things took shape...

the white silicon is a sort of a dam for the wood glue to stay in the kerfs

1-103.jpg

a little glare, well, there is alot of glue, continued to work it in there for a few min....

1-102.jpg

we are going to let it dry over night.....

After experiencing kerfed ports I think I'm going to try Jacobs magic box trick for kerfing. Truthfully how many tries did it take? It took me like 4 different tries. I finally tried the old steamer trick and it worked without being too thin or cracking.
