Active Front Stage Build

Recommended Posts

Figured I would start a new build log as I will be using all new speakers up front and new HU.

1998' GMC Sierra Extended Cab Daily Driver

Eclipse CD-7200 MKII

Sundown - SAX-100.4

- Oz Audio - Matrix Elite 5.25"

- Vifa D26NC05 1" Textile Dome

Sundown - SAX-125.2

-Peerless - 830520 8"

I have a mix of Second Skin and SDS sound deadening products to use on and in the doors.

Q-Forms kick panels that are already modified with MDF mounting rings and deadening attached to the back.

Doors will be modified to accommodate the new 8" midbass drivers.

Sub stage to be addressed later after the front stage is done.

8" Peerless and a 5.25" mid? Any reason you didn't use a more dedicated actual midrange instead of the woofer you have?

So, say something like a 4" midrange with an 8" midbass?

Personal preference from past experience with the Oz mid. I love the sound they produce on the male/female vox along with the snare drum. I used the Peerless 6.5" in a past install and liked the over all lower octave midrange/midbass frequencies it produced and felt the 8" would do a better job at midbass frequencies with the added cone size.

Tuned in to see how you mod the door for an 8. I just could not bring myself to cut the door up of my 05 Chevy 2500HD CC to fit the Hybrid L8's that I haven't used. Not that the L8's are needed since going to the new Blues 6 1/2.

Hopefully this weekend I get time to get started on the doors. That is if the wife doesn't find anything else for me to do!

This is a start to my midbass door build. Started this weekend and made good progress on the drivers door. Don't mind the oblong hole as I cut twice and measured once. :suicide-santa:

Reinforced the back of the door with MDF and fiberglass cloth

DSC00222.jpg

A .5" piece of MDF on the door itself to help fill in the gap between the panel and door. Dampened with SecondSkin Damplifier Pro.

An inside shot of the door with a SecondSkin Speaker Tweaker pad and more Damplifier Pro.

A side shot showing the depth of the speaker to the door

Front view of the speaker.

With the door shut! Close tolerance!

And the fleece to cover the door with

The fleece added. Will be retaining the door pocket.

DSC00231.jpg

Ran out of resin as this fleece absorbs a lot.

DSC00229.jpg

Will be adding some fiberglass cloth for strength and body filler to smooth out the wrinkles

Will be buying more resin tomorrow. :peepwall:

Nice start bro.

How are you going to finish them? Vinyl, paint, other?

Soon the real fun begins. Bondo and sanding. :suicide-santa:

There might be a future issue with the speakers clearence. You should take into mind the thickness of the fleece and fibers glass because it looks like it's a little too close.

Nice line up for the front stage! I don't envy you having to sand, glad my sanding time is over. Looks like you got a good start on the door pod. Waitin' for more!

Actually that is the floor mat that looks so close. It actually clears the door frame with ease with a little room to spare. :drink40:

Thanks,

Going to see if I can match the texture with paint and try to match the interior.
