2010 Ford Escape

Hey guys I am back and this time with a new vehicle! it is a Ford Escape 2010, v6 3.0 litre.

 

The setup is:

 

2-12inch NS v1

2-SAZ2500

2-NSB90's

 

A little bit about me I am now working with Arctic Combustion and I am a travelling service tech and I do any and all things related to boilers!

 

So here is what I have to work with: 63x41, but after my tools on 33x41, and the 41 can go to 52 max, the wheel wells put me at 41"

 

Here is the machine! it is a tan colour and yes there is a after market security system already installed (hench the blue light).

 

 

So the jack was in an interesting spot, so it got moved

Here are all the tools I have!

 

 

Here is all the left over space I have for a sub stage, I expect to use about 50% of it up. That stuff currently there isn't normally there.

 

 

 

I plan to wire those batteries up this friday and I plan to use a stinger line out converter. so that way I keep my original dash and the sync features!

 

and yes I know subs are useless in a work vehicle but I don't plan on a big setup, I will end up going to a single 12 in the future but for now and while I have space I will go all out!

Haha my dad just got me a bunch of tools for Christmas so it's a lot easier to work on my car too. What year is that stang?

nice! I believe the stang is a 2013, it is a buddies of mine, it was parked in the garage that I was working in and in the way so I moved it out!

so it seems I have been lazy on this build! I guess time flys when you are busy! at any rate we seemed to slow down a bit at work so I now have some progress to post!
 

here is the new way I store all my tools

 

 

 

here is what is under the back floor mat, lots of room for amps!

 

 

sadly the battery is about 1/2" to tall, so I will mount that behind the box and ontop of the false floor

please note the din rail! and relay! I found those at my shop and put them to good use! although I am short 2 more terminal blocks for my sub.

 

 

second floor! I see an upgrade to 3500 in my future!

all that is left for me to do is:

 

get a new starting battery, one with posts and screws

cut out the false floor using 3/4" birch
redesign tool storage!

any cooling for the amps hooked up?  It's gonna get hot under there.  Other than that it's looking clean so far.

 

Oh, and I'm running the milwaukee 18v tools as well.  Absolutely love them.  Ergonomics are great, and the weight of them is spot on.

when I make the new 3/4" false floor there will be two 80mm intake fans two 80mm outtake fans, and 2 8inch audio fans to move the air around!

other then that the m18 is my favorite tool to date! I love them all and oddly enough each new tool only cost around 100$ it is awesome! I have the following:

drill/hammer

1/4impact

400ft/lb torque impact (1/2" drive)

bandsaw (most amazing tool yet)

jig saw

skill saw

right angle drill

swazall (the bigger one)

wet/dry vacuum

2-4ah batteries

2-3ah batteries

my next m18 buy will be the 4.5inch grinder!

i must stay i got to many job sites and I am the only guy with cordless plus i am the only guy who cleans up in a second! no cord mess at all!

I just purchased my new h/u! and it arrives by saturday and i plan to install it next week sometime.

and i did 2 of the big 3!

Grounded the battery to the chassie, surprisingly there was a 6mm thread hole close by,

oddly enough they are using I think 16awg to ground my engine/alt already to the chassie, so I just added to it! and lucky for me at this point the alt is close by!

that is all the updating I have for now, next week I will have my work cut out for me!

todo list:

cut out the new false floor with 3/4" ply

wire in the h/u

wire in the fans

put the subs in the box and wire them up.

find some way to make that battery work with ring terminals!

pound my ear drums out!

little bit of an update!

I cut a new floor out of 3/4 birch and it is much better then the 1/2 stuff I used I had to put a nice 45 chamfer on it so the lit and seats would close!

I also ran the speaker wires from front to back, sorry no pictures.

I also installed the cooling system! I used zip ties to hold the 80mm fan! it would quite ingenious! I put 6-32 bolts though the screw holes and then zip ties to hold it tight!

next times to do is:

receive and install the h/u

put everything in and pound my ear drums out!

So everyone I finally finished this install! and let me tell you it is loud and sounds great!

Here are final pictures.

First piece to remove, all clips

I forgot to plug this clip in and I was wondering why my h/u wouldn't turn on... ya it was late that is my excuse!

finally powered up two hours later

wired up batteries, ya a royal mess.

the mess in my opion is justified!

4 runs of 1/0 front to back

4 runs of 1/0 to power my big amps

2 runs of 4awg to power the 4 channel

2 runs of 1/0 to link the batteries

plus volt meter leads and relay leads total of

10 1/0 connections and that is the big stuff

with the box doesn't look to bad on a black background

and finally!

over all i am impressed with the sound how it looks and installed well enough.

over all i am unimpressed because I lost my sync, 80% of my steering wheel controls

and bluetooth is bluetooth

and the appradio2 doesn't work with my cell for some stupid reason.

in my opinion I have lost more then I gained and this is why I will give it one week and if i don't' change my mind I will be selling it all and going back to factory..

Ya I don't know i used to love car audio and now it doesn't thrill me like it used to..maybe I am getting old? I hope not. but I will give it a week and go from there

final results!

So i got a refund on the Head-unit minus 15% restocking fee. that much I feel is okay. I sent it back for a few reasons:

-it didn't interface with my cell phone, the mirror feature and app-radio 2, i have a Google nexus 4 cell phone

-Bluetooth was surprisingly garbage

-it would start to play a movie then 15 mins into it would say format unreadable, although some times if i restart it enough it would go though

-i couldn't skip ahead in a movie or it would give me the above error and start me from scratch

-music via usb would for some reason drop out and never work until I pulled the stick out and put it back in

-the screen speed was slow, for example when i dragged my finger to scroll though a menu it would lag regardless of a ipod/iphone or usb even after adding the database to the drive in question.

-the mute didn't work properly it would turn off the speakers but leave the sub on during a phone call

Review on the PAC MSFRD-1 with sync harness. I cant think of any positive but here is the negatives:

-out of 8 buttons i could only get 2 to work, they were volume up and down

-i couldn't get the sync usb or aux port or sat radio to work via the pac unit as it said it could do

-the sync module/LCD screen was a joke

-Bluetooth via the sync was very quite and i had to turn my sound system up to nearly 100% to hear anyone then on disconnect turn it all down fast

-the mute didn't work properly it would turn off the speakers but leave the sub on during a phone call, this might be a headunit issue though

I will be buying a RF3sixty.3 in the near future and I will interface my amps with it via the outputs of my stock headunit.

I will be down sizing to smaller set-up as this set-up i lost to much space sadly and i am a travelling contractor so at this point in my life space is important for tools and or parts.

my plan is to run 2-10" subs or maybe a could of 8's off of 2500 or less rms and go from there. or maybe just a single 12 really knows.

other then that my experience with this type of build is one I wish none of you should ever have to go thought but if you do here is my shot video!

end results of a sound system in my escape! very loud much louder then my grandam ever was with the same power and subs. my grandam was 148db on the termlabs and this felt closer to 151db for sure, give or take a db that is!

all in all the sub box was designed by RAM design and it was a solid design, i had it loading off of the back hatch by 4inch and this gave a nice response I felt!

but I hope to be back soon with the rf 3sixty.3!
