Tirefryr 1,742 Posted May 26, 2015 All this engine talk, i dont have the funds but is there a V8 i could put in my s10 with little modifications to make it somewhat fast?... that is if my transmission can withstand it? I also dont know how to replace an engine, but my father might.. anybody is welcome to throw ideas my way.Nothing will be easy for you given your lack of mechanical aptitude.

mikel7829 90 Posted May 26, 2015 What is in your S10 now?I will guess a 2.2 Vortec.. if it was a 4.3 Vortec they can be built to have or if not more power then the the 305 "5.0" for little of nothing..

mikel7829 90 Posted May 26, 2015 My opinion for the 4.3... http://www.jegs.com/i/COMP+Cams/249/56-420-8/10002/-1 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fem-mkp6020c-000 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/smp-1703 And have the heads shaved a few mil's and port and polished/reworked at a local machine shop..and bore the throttle body a few mm... For starters..
mikel7829 90 Posted May 26, 2015 Personally on a motor over 100k I would bore .30 over but that is just me..
Adrian_D 520 Posted May 26, 2015 Wait, you have to have it be warm?? Feck knows exactly. I don't have clear info about the temperature it's supposed to be at. I've read one claim that it should be over 120-130F. Seems like VW, BMW and Mercedes use thermostats on all of their radiator cooled transmissions. VW opens at 162F, Mercedes and BMW at 175F. Ford uses them on Crown Vics post 99 (I think) and they are part of the A/C condenser. Judging by the models using the Mercedes thermostat, they started using them for the NAG2 (I have the NAG1). A lot of E and S classes with NAG1 (in-tank coolers) have had the coolers rupture, thus blown transmissions. Mercedes even sells a glycol contamination tester kit. Figures that since I'm going to have the external cooler and I have such rotten luck, I'll ditch the in-tank cooler, use a t-stat and add a trans temperature gauge when I take off the pan. I already have the gauge and sender.
Adrian_D 520 Posted May 26, 2015 What kind of VW? Touareg, Cayenne, Gallardo, ALL automatic Audi's, they all use the same part number.
topgun 262 Posted May 26, 2015 4.3 in my s10...i am not mechanically inclined but my father is A v8 would be the easiest thing to make power in it...
topgun 262 Posted May 26, 2015 Turbo's are a wee bit oversized then. You have to admit sean even if you don't like me to much that HP out of a V6 is wickedly insane...That is why I do it.. They've been making 1000hp 4 cylinder engines for almost 30 years now.
///M5 2,833 Posted May 26, 2015 4.3 in my s10...i am not mechanically inclined but my father is A v8 would be the easiest thing to make power in it...As always. 4.3 has very little available off the shelf for it even though it is 6/8 of a real motor. That being said, forced induction does wonders on anything.
